Congresswoman facing 17 years in prison for assaulting ICE didn’t let it stop her from getting pregnant

BS BULLETIN:

  • Rep. LaMonica McIver says she went forward with IVF despite facing federal charges carrying a potential maximum of 17 years in prison.
  • The New Jersey Democrat is expecting her second child in October after years of fertility struggles.
  • McIver pleaded not guilty to charges stemming from her confrontation with federal officers outside Newark’s Delaney Hall detention facility.

Rep. LaMonica McIver is preparing for two very different possibilities: welcoming a baby and standing trial in federal court.

The New Jersey Democrat drew fresh attention Tuesday after posting a video about her decision to pursue another pregnancy despite the criminal case hanging over her.

“People might find it crazy that even though I’m facing 17 years in prison, I made the decision to get pregnant,” McIver said in the video.

She added that she refused to allow the Trump administration to “take my joy or my future.”

The pregnancy itself isn’t new. McIver announced in May that she was expecting her second child. She later detailed the unusual circumstances surrounding the pregnancy in an ELLE essay published Sept. 3.

McIver wrote that she had struggled for years with fibroids and secondary infertility and eventually turned to IVF. An earlier embryo transfer failed, leaving her with one remaining embryo.

By the time she had to decide whether to try again, she was also facing federal prosecution.

She chose to proceed.

McIver is charged in connection with the chaotic May 9, 2025 confrontation outside Delaney Hall, an ICE detention facility in Newark.

Federal prosecutors alleged that McIver forcibly impeded and interfered with officers as they attempted to arrest Newark Mayor Ras Baraka. The indictment alleges that she struck one officer with her forearm, grabbed him and later used both forearms against another officer.

McIver has pleaded not guilty and maintains that she was performing legitimate congressional oversight.

Her attempt to get the case dismissed suffered a major setback in August when a divided federal appeals court allowed two counts against her to move forward while sending a third back to the lower court for further consideration.

McIver, now 40, said in her ELLE essay that she is due in October.

  1. This is just a play to get sympathy from the dumbed down masses, to let her get no jail time! Besides, she’s black, a woman, a minority, and if she got jail time ( which she deserves), it would only because of racism, and not that she broke the law.
When she slides without jail time, you won’t hear the Democrats yelling, “ No one is above the law!”
Everything in our government is corrupt, and nothing but Fn lies!
Oh, and the Fn useless Republicans will call for another committee hearing, get their camera time, and go back to doing nothing of importance!
