THE DAILY BS: HOW MUCH CAN YOU HANDLE?

SPARE ME THE BS. I’ve got things to do.

  • A New York woman was giving a male coworker a ride home after their shift when police say he attacked her with a knife, slashing her throat and leaving her with life-threatening injuries.

  • Despite her wounds, the woman managed to jump from the moving vehicle and scream for help. The car crashed into an Italian restaurant, and police arrested the suspect after he allegedly tried to flee.

  • The suspect, David Cruz Torres, 36, is identified by police as being from Michoacán, Mexico. Fox News has contacted the Department of Homeland Security, but his immigration status has not been publicly confirmed.

MORE TO IT. I’ve got time.

A New York woman’s decision to give a coworker a ride home after work turned into a fight for her life when police say the man suddenly attacked her with a knife, slashed her throat, and left her desperately trying to escape a moving vehicle.

The attack occurred Friday night, October 9, in Saratoga Springs, New York.

Police identified the suspect as David Cruz Torres, 36, of Michoacán, Mexico, and charged him with attempted murder and criminal possession of a weapon.

The case has also raised an unanswered question about the suspect’s immigration status, with Fox News reporting that it contacted the Department of Homeland Security for information.

According to Saratoga Springs police, the woman and Cruz Torres worked together in the city. At the end of their shift, Cruz Torres asked her for a ride home.

She agreed.

But while she was driving, investigators say Cruz Torres began physically attacking her before pulling out a knife and slashing her throat.

Despite suffering a severe neck wound, the woman managed to escape the vehicle while it was still moving.

She then screamed for help.

The driverless vehicle continued forward and crashed into Augie’s To-Go, an Italian restaurant near the intersection of Lake Avenue and Forest Avenue.

Police and firefighters were dispatched to the scene at approximately 8:13 p.m.

First responders discovered the woman suffering from what police described as a serious neck laceration that did not appear to have been caused by the collision.

The extent of her injuries quickly made clear that investigators were dealing with something far more serious than a traffic accident.

Nearby residents rushed to help the woman and provided officers with information about what had happened.

Cruz Torres allegedly attempted to flee the area but was detained by Saratoga Springs police.

The injured woman was transported by ambulance to Saratoga Hospital and subsequently airlifted to Albany Medical Center for treatment of life-threatening injuries.

Authorities have not publicly established a motive for the attack.

Cruz Torres was charged with second-degree attempted murder and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon. Local reporting indicates he was arraigned Saturday in Saratoga Springs City Court.

One detail in the police identification has drawn additional attention.

Authorities described Cruz Torres as being from Michoacán, a state in western Mexico. Fox News Digital reported that it reached out to the Department of Homeland Security, but its October 12 article did not include a response.

That leaves a significant question unanswered: Is Cruz Torres legally present in the United States?

Being from Mexico does not establish someone’s immigration status. Cruz Torres could be a lawful permanent resident, a visa holder, a naturalized citizen, or someone without lawful immigration status. No public information reviewed so far establishes which, if any, of those descriptions applies.

A confirmation from DHS or Immigration and Customs Enforcement would clarify whether immigration enforcement has any role in the case.

For now, the verified facts concern the violent attack itself: a woman who agreed to help a coworker get home was allegedly slashed across the throat, escaped a moving car, and survived long enough to summon help.

Police have not released a publicly confirmed motive, and the woman’s current medical condition has not been established in the reports reviewed.

Cruz Torres faces serious felony charges. The allegations against him remain subject to the criminal court process.

PROVE IT. I don’t trust anybody.
