Omar’s sister subpoenaed for her own shady connection involving fraud, $20 million and a clueless homeowner

THE DAILY BS: HOW MUCH CAN YOU HANDLE?

SPARE ME THE BS (I’ve got things to do).

  • Ilhan Omar’s sister, Sahra Noor, has reportedly received a federal subpoena following Monday’s search of the congresswoman’s Washington home.
  • A resurfaced Daily Wire investigation found Noor registered her consulting firm at a Minnesota address linked through business records to convicted Feeding Our Future fraud participants.
  • The homeowner told a reporter he knew nothing about the companies registered there. Noor has not been publicly charged in the fraud scheme, and the purpose of her reported subpoena remains unclear.

LAY IT ON ME (I’ve got time).

Rep. Ilhan Omar’s sister is reportedly getting attention from federal investigators, and an earlier investigation into her business dealings has suddenly become a lot more interesting.

Sahra Noor has reportedly received a federal subpoena, according to reporting Wednesday by Democracy Now!, following Monday’s search of Omar’s Washington, D.C., home.

Noor’s name also appears in a Daily Wire investigation, originally published in July and republished this week, concerning her consulting company’s Minnesota registration address.

And that address has quite a history.

Investigative reporter Luke Rosiak found that Noor registered Grit Partners Consulting at a home in Lakeville, Minnesota, occupied by Mashah Ahmed Ali and his wife, Ister Ahmed Afraa, also known as Ismahan Ahmed Afraa.

According to business records examined by the Daily Wire, Afraa had established companies with people subsequently convicted in the enormous Feeding Our Future fraud scandal.

Remember that little operation? Federal money was supposed to feed needy children during the pandemic. Instead, participants submitted fraudulent meal claims and diverted staggering sums of taxpayer money.

Prosecutors have described it as a roughly $250 million fraud scheme.

Among the connections identified by Rosiak was Hanna Marekegn, who established Sunrise Business Center with Afraa and pleaded guilty to wire fraud in 2022.

Afraa was also associated with businesses connected to Feeding Our Future founder Aimee Bock, who received a 41-year federal prison sentence, and Sahra Mohamed Nur, who received 51 months in prison for her role in the scheme.

A word of caution before the names start running together: Sahra Mohamed Nur, the convicted fraud participant, is not Sahra Noor, Omar’s sister.

Now, back to the house.

When Rosiak contacted homeowner Mashah Ahmed Ali about the companies registered at his residence, Ali claimed he knew nothing about them.

“There must be some sort of scam going on, I have no idea,” he told the Daily Wire. “For the last 10 years I have a professional job, I have nothing to do with anything,” he added.

Ali reportedly declined to provide contact information for his wife. Afraa did not respond to the reporter’s text message, and Noor did not respond to a request for comment.

So we have a consulting company registered at a house associated with several business connections to convicted fraud participants, and the homeowner says he doesn’t know anything about it.

Apparently, Minnesota business registrations have become a rather adventurous form of home delivery.

Then there’s the money.

Noor’s professional biography says Grit Partners has “secured more than $20 million in funding for health initiatives” and consulted on projects backed by organizations including USAID, the CDC, GAVI and the World Bank.

That is not the same as proving her company received $20 million directly from USAID. The publicly described funding claim does not establish that, nor does it establish that any of those funds were stolen or connected to Feeding Our Future.

But when Rosiak’s investigation resurfaced on X this week, the reaction was immediate.

One commenter, Gingerine, demanded, “HOW is she allowed to be in the position she’s in?”

Laura Marklin had a different reaction to the homeowner’s explanation: “That’s like someone stole all the registration forms for the daycare!”

And X user XxpireD mocked the suggestion that the scrutiny was merely political targeting: “Shhh… Bro this doesn’t fit their narrative. She being targeted.”

The comments reflect public suspicion, not proof of wrongdoing. Still, it’s not difficult to understand why a homeowner claiming ignorance of companies registered at his address would attract attention.

The new federal developments have only intensified that interest.

On Monday, Homeland Security Investigations agents executed a judicially authorized search warrant at Rep. Omar’s Washington residence. The Justice Department confirmed the search was part of an ongoing criminal investigation.

ABC News reported, citing sources, that the investigation concerns Omar’s immigration paperwork. Omar denies allegations of immigration fraud.

“Make no mistake: this is an attempt to target political enemies and weaponize federal law enforcement,” Omar wrote after the search. “I will not be silenced.”

Her office also denounced the action as political intimidation.

Now comes the report that Noor and another relative have received subpoenas.

But here’s the distinction that shouldn’t get lost in the excitement: There is no public confirmation that Noor’s reported subpoena concerns Grit Partners, Feeding Our Future or the Lakeville address. Nor does receiving a subpoena establish that someone committed a crime.

The Daily Wire investigation establishes a reported trail of business records and associations. It does not establish that Noor, her consulting company or Rep. Omar participated in the Feeding Our Future fraud.

What it does leave is a perfectly reasonable question for someone to answer. Why was Noor’s company registered at that particular house, and how did an address associated with multiple fraud-linked businesses wind up on her company’s paperwork? The homeowner says he doesn’t know. The company’s founder hasn’t publicly explained it.

And now federal investigators are reportedly seeking information from members of the Omar family.

That’s quite a collection of unanswered questions for one Minnesota address.
