THE DAILY BS: HOW MUCH CAN YOU HANDLE?

SPARE ME THE BS (I’ve got things to do).
- Kamala Harris told an audience in Seoul that Democrats could capture both chambers of Congress despite what she described as “overt cheating” in the American election process.
- Harris pointed to voter-roll removals and mid-decade redistricting as examples of threats to fair elections, without establishing that those practices amounted to illegal cheating.
- X users pounced on the contrast with past warnings about undermining election confidence, while others questioned Harris’s own path to the 2024 Democratic nomination.
LAY IT ON ME (I’ve got time).
Kamala Harris traveled halfway around the world to discuss American leadership, international alliances and the future of democracy.
And somehow, the conversation ended up back at election cheating.
Speaking Wednesday at the Asan Institute for Policy Studies in Seoul, South Korea, the former vice president predicted Democrats would reclaim the House of Representatives in November and suggested they could capture the Senate, too.
But Harris also alleged that the American election process had been affected by what she called “overt cheating.”
In a video circulated on X, Harris described a difficult political environment, including artificial intelligence, misinformation and efforts she believes threaten free elections.
Her examples included voter-roll removals and legislative redistricting outside the usual census cycle.
Those practices have become fiercely contested political issues. Voter-roll maintenance is required under federal law, subject to safeguards protecting eligible voters, while mid-decade redistricting can face constitutional and statutory challenges depending on the circumstances. Neither practice, by itself, establishes illegal election fraud.
Harris nevertheless expressed confidence in Democrats’ prospects.
“We are facing a lot of obstacles, but the Democrats are going to win,” she told the Seoul audience.
She predicted a Democratic House victory and suggested that developments were providing additional reasons to believe the party might capture the Senate as well.
Harris also claimed the number of competitive House seats potentially available to Democrats had grown from 40 to 46 in recent days. That was her assessment of the electoral landscape, not a confirmed election result.
The remarks were delivered during a broader address criticizing President Donald Trump’s foreign policy, tariffs and handling of the U.S.-South Korea alliance.
Harris accused Trump of weakening relationships with allies through what she described as “erratic tariffs and the punitive nature of those.”
But it was her language about American elections that attracted attention on X.
The account Western Lensman circulated the video and highlighted what it saw as a contradiction between Harris’s remarks and years of political warnings about questioning election legitimacy.
“We’ve been reliably informed for years that this kind of talk Undermines Faith In Elections and is Very Dangerous To Democracy,” the account wrote.
That observation brought an avalanche of reactions.
One commenter, Matthew Newgarden, argued that Harris was applying a different standard to election-integrity concerns than the one Democrats have demanded of Republicans.
“The hypocrisy is stunning,” he wrote, questioning why allegations about election fairness were being treated differently depending on who raised them.
Another user, Marie Isabella, offered a shorter version of the same complaint:
“Democrats; always putting the ‘D’ in ‘it’s Different when we do it’.”
Other commenters turned their attention to Harris’s own political history.
After President Joe Biden withdrew from the 2024 presidential race, Harris became the Democratic nominee through the party’s delegate-selection process without a new nationwide presidential primary.
That process complied with party procedures, but it remained controversial among critics who argued Democratic primary voters never had an opportunity to choose between Harris and alternative candidates after Biden withdrew.
“Interesting coming from the candidate chosen by her party without a single vote,” posted an X user identifying as The Phoenix.
The comment refers to the absence of a new public primary vote for Harris, rather than the delegate votes through which she formally secured the nomination.
Meanwhile, another group of commenters wondered whether allegations about cheating were becoming part of the Democrats’ messaging ahead of the November elections.
“This is a key closing message for them,” wrote Western Lensman. “It’s everywhere.”
One user, identified as IT Guy, speculated that the accusations were designed to provide an explanation if Democrats fell short of their electoral expectations.
Another, Dean Susee, suggested the same possibility: “I think this is to fight the outcome of November.”
Those were predictions and interpretations from social-media commenters, not evidence that Harris or Democratic officials had adopted a coordinated plan to dispute election results.
Harris, meanwhile, has an active political schedule ahead of the midterms. The Associated Press reports she plans campaign appearances in several states later this month, while leaving questions about a possible 2028 presidential campaign unanswered.
For now, her message from Seoul combines confidence that Democrats can win with warnings that the election environment is unfair.
And her critics have seized on the irony of hearing an American political leader question election integrity overseas after years of contentious arguments about whether such rhetoric damages public confidence.
Apparently, the argument over America’s elections has become an international export.
