THE DAILY BS: HOW MUCH CAN YOU HANDLE?

SPARE ME THE BS (I’ve got things to do).
- A judge issued a jail healthcare order addressing gender-transition hormone injections for Alexandros Paporakis, 19.
- Prosecutors accuse Paporakis of planning a mass shooting at an Illinois Hindu temple with a modified rifle and hundreds of rounds.
- Investigators say the weapon malfunctioned, and coworkers reported alarming communications that helped police arrest the suspect.
LAY IT ON ME (I’ve got time).
A 19-year-old accused of plotting a massacre at a Hindu temple is sitting in jail awaiting trial. And among the matters already addressed by the court? Continuing the suspect’s gender-transition hormone injections.
That’s the latest in the case of Alexandros Paporakis, the Illinois teenager authorities say identified as a neo-Nazi and planned to murder worshippers at a temple in Aurora.
According to Fox News and NBC Chicago, a Cook County judge ordered Paporakis detained and issued a healthcare order addressing hormone treatment and other existing medical needs.
The order concerns medical care during detention, not a finding of guilt or innocence. But it adds an extraordinary detail to an already disturbing case.
Prosecutors allege Paporakis drove to the temple Sunday, October 11, with a modified rifle, tactical equipment and approximately 300 rounds of ammunition. The Chicago Sun-Times reported that prosecutors said the rifle jammed as Paporakis tried to shoot a man from a vehicle.
Investigators say Paporakis subsequently contacted a coworker. According to prosecutors, one message said the intended victim was “certainly saved by his God today.”
Coworkers reported the communications to police, who arrested Paporakis before any alleged second attempt.
Police say investigators recovered weapons, ammunition and extremist writings from the suspect’s residence. Paporakis faces charges including making a terrorist threat and unlawful weapon possession.
Palatine Police Chief William Nord said authorities were fortunate something much worse had not happened. Federal and local officials praised the people who reported the threat.
The charges remain allegations. The court will decide the criminal case, while jail officials must follow applicable medical-care requirements.
For now, the accused plotter’s next stop is court, not the temple. And the jail’s healthcare paperwork has become part of a story that was already difficult to believe.
