Bannon challenges Trump’s Netanyahu endorsement—demands October 7 answers as U.S. aid continues

THE DAILY BS: HOW MUCH CAN YOU HANDLE?

SPARE ME THE BS (I’ve got things to do).

  • Steve Bannon criticized Trump’s endorsement of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Monday’s War Room.
  • Bannon pressed for a fuller investigation of the October 7 attacks and opposed continuing American weapons and financial assistance.
  • Trump endorsed Netanyahu Sunday ahead of Israel’s October 27 election; Netanyahu publicly thanked him.

LAY IT ON ME (I’ve got time).

Donald Trump gave Benjamin Netanyahu his endorsement. Steve Bannon promptly supplied the dissenting opinion.

On Monday’s War Room, Trump’s former adviser made clear that the president’s decision to back the Israeli prime minister had not produced universal applause inside the MAGA universe.

“We were not wild about” the endorsement, Bannon said.

The man famous for urging Republicans to fight was not making an exception for the president’s preferred Israeli candidate.

His central demand concerned the Hamas attacks of October 7, 2023, and the accounting for the failures surrounding them.

Bannon asked: “Where is the investigation of the October 7th situation?”

He cited Yaakov Katz’s book Why Israel Slept and argued that the public still needs the kind of examination that goes beyond information available from unclassified sources. He accused Netanyahu’s government of refusing the investigation he wants.

Bannon also opposed continuing to provide Israel with American weapons and money, arguing that the country could stand on its own. If Washington continues the assistance, he said, “we need to have a massive investigation of our own.”

Translation for Washington: The checkbook should come with questions.

Trump’s Sunday endorsement took the opposite political direction. He praised Netanyahu’s leadership and partnership against Iran and gave him his “Complete and Total Endorsement” ahead of the October 27 vote.

“BIBI NETANYAHU WILL NEVER LET YOU DOWN!” the president wrote.

Netanyahu thanked Trump publicly and emphasized their shared position on Iran.

“Together we will never let Iran’s regime get nuclear weapons,” the prime minister wrote.

Apparently, America First still has a few matters to settle at the staff meeting.
