THE DAILY BS: HOW MUCH CAN YOU HANDLE?
SPARE ME THE BS (I’ve got things to do).
- Anderson Cooper aired a montage of President Trump complimenting men’s looks and physiques.
- Trump’s repeated remarks about Ohio Sen. Jon Husted supplied the segment’s launching point.
- CNN opened the routine with Seinfeld’s famous “ASSMAN” license-plate gag.
LAY IT ON ME (I’ve got time).
CNN has found a presidential subject it can examine from every angle: Donald Trump’s appreciation of a handsome Republican.
Anderson Cooper devoted a Wednesday segment to Trump’s commentary on men’s bodies, assembling a montage and dubbing the president the “assman-in-chief.” Somewhere in the newsroom, somebody had to log all those clips. Journalism school cannot prepare you for everything.
The immediate inspiration was Trump’s repeated praise of Ohio Sen. Jon Husted, a former college football player. Trump had described studying Husted’s physique, including his shoulders, hands and backside, while discussing his athletic background.
Cooper introduced the subject with the Seinfeld episode in which Kramer mistakenly receives the “ASSMAN” vanity plates.
From there, CNN’s political coverage became a casting session.
The montage included Trump praising Republican candidates and officeholders such as Ed Gallrein, Mike Collins, Rick Jackson, Greg Dolezal, Tim Sheehy and Bill Hagerty.
Athletes also made the cut, including quarterback Jaxson Dart and kicker Harrison Butker. The compilation reached back to Trump’s much-discussed Arnold Palmer remarks, too.
That is a substantial production effort for a network apparently concerned that the president spends too much time commenting on people’s appearance.
Cooper folded Husted’s Senate race against Sherrod Brown into the routine, connecting the physical compliments to the political contest.
The segment aired on AC360 Wednesday night, with Trump’s rally footage supplying the material and Cooper supplying the commentary.
BREAKING: Anderson Cooper just aired a montage of Trump obsessing over the attractiveness of several men he’s campaigned for. You’re not alone if you’ve noticed a pattern. Wow. https://t.co/zkuBPu5Wo7
