A Chicago-area concealed carry permit holder shot one of two assailants Sunday, sending him to the hospital in critical condition.

A 23-year-old man was walking in the North Lawndale neighborhood Sunday when two assailants accosted him, NBC Chicago reported. Police said the armed citizen, who had a valid Illinois Firearms Owner Identification (FOID) and concealed carry permit, opened fire after he was attacked.

One assailant was hospitalized in critical condition, while police are talking to a person of interest in the case, according to NBC Chicago. The Chicago Police Department did not immediately respond to a request for comment from the Daily Caller News Foundation.

In September, Orland Park, Illinois, police responded to a local gas station after a would-be robber accosted an armed citizen, who eventually took the would-be robber to a local hospital for treatment with at least one gunshot wound, ABC7Chicago reported. Surveillance video caught the incident, which was posted on social media.

In Columbia County, Georgia, sheriff’s deputies said that 29-year-old Benjamin Dasher repeatedly demanded that a DoorDash driver purchase a food item for him before attempting a carjacking, according to WSBTV.com, an Atlanta-area TV station. The DoorDash driver shot Dasher, who was taken to a hospital and charged with “criminal attempt – hijacking a motor vehicle.”

In Dearborn, Michigan, a 30-year-old woman with a concealed carry permit fired three or four shots after her 36-year-old boyfriend was attacked while entering a store, seriously wounding the assailant.
