Bill Maher responds to Trump’s 1,300-word screed

Daily Caller News Foundation

Comedian Bill Maher responded to a 1,300-word tirade President Donald Trump posted online Oct. 25 accused him of being “drunk” during a dinner, among many other things.

“Eating with Trump is like dating Taylor Swift: a lot of laughs at the time, but later on they’re tearing you a new asshole,” Maher said on a Friday episode of HBO’s “Real Time With Bill Maher.” The criticism arose despite Maher having a second dinner at the White House with Trump and musician Kid Rock on Oct. 15.

Neither the White House nor HBO immediately responded to the Daily Caller News Foundation’s requests for comment.

“Let’s talk about this COMPLETE AND TOTAL LOSER, Bill Maher,” Trump wrote at the start of his antagonizing post on Truth Social.

“You got me there. I’ll own that one,” Maher subsequently responded during his show, holding a printout of the post to push back on a selection of Trump’s claims.

“When I have watched the show, which isn’t often, it always ends with dishonesty, about me at least, but, who cares?” Trump’s post continued.

“Yeah, ‘who cares?’ Three pages of ‘who cares,’” Maher retorted.

“He doesn’t think it was a good thing to take the Nuclear Weapon [sic] away from Iran, which shows you that he is not very smart,” Trump’s post continues.

Maher dismissed that claim, saying he was “one of the few people on the ‘lunatic Left’ who’s glad you hit Iran.”

Trump also claimed in the post that one of Maher’s agents called him “incessantly” about meeting with him ahead of both dinners: “[Maher] invited himself to the White House!”

“I’ve never called you. You called me! I’d be afraid to call you. You’re the president. I think you’re too busy,” Maher clarified before pointing to the printout. “Well, plainly not.”

Trump also commented on Maher’s appearance during their March 2025 dinner.

“We had our first meeting, Bill was very nervous,” Trump stated in the post. “He asked for a drink. He was very insecure, and he had a seriously bruised eye and nose area, as though somebody had just beaten him up — But it wasn’t me!”

Maher refuted that allegation with pictures he claimed the White House sent him memorializing the occasion.

Trump also stated he wanted to tell Maher during the second dinner that “he’s a major POTHEAD [sic]” and that “he’s got to stop, it’s very bad for his health.”

“Well, I guess the cat’s out of the bag now, huh?” Boy, that explains a lot,” Maher, well-known for his use and advocacy of pyscedelics, said. “I thought I was just happy.”

“‘He looked like hell this time,’” Maher read, “‘Bill was drunk and had alcohol in his hand’ — that you gave me — ‘as he walked through the White House.’”

Trump also stated in his post that “overall” he himself “thought it was a good meeting.”

“After the first dinner, Bill Maher was friendly, I guess, everyone walked away pleased,” Trump stated. “He gave me a good first show, with lots of Laughing Machine [sic] laughter, which is a real term, but it is what it is, and then reverted back to his former self, and his old ways.”

Trump added that he “understand[s]” Maher is “doing his thing.”

“I never took it very personally,” Trump continued. “I would always mock his Low Ratings [sic], whenever I heard. He’s not a nice guy, and what he spouts isn’t what he believes. He has to cater to his base, which is mostly composed of Losers, and people who don’t like working.”

Trump then stated that is why he was hesitant to arrange a second dinner with Maher’s agent.

“After the second dinner, Bill’s ‘show’ was far worse than the first. He went crazy! He’s gutless, because he enjoyed every minute,” Trump claimed.
