Democrats won at least three of the four seats on Tuesday that Florida had redrawn to help Republicans gain more seats in the 2026 election cycle.
Republican Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis unveiled a map in April that redrew the state’s Ninth, 14th, 22nd and 25th districts to give Republicans a clear advantage in each of them. Despite the redistricting efforts, Democratic Florida Rep. Jared Moskowitz, Democratic Florida Rep.-elect Pia Dandiya and Democratic Florida Rep. Kathy Castor all won their elections — and Democratic Florida Rep. Darren Soto was leading in a heavily Republican seat late Tuesday night.
Moskowitz defeated former Republican Boca Raton Mayor Scott Singer by a four-point margin and Castor defeated Republican nominee Mike Beltran by five points, according to the Associated Press. Dandiya defeated her Republican opponent Casey Askar by a 52 percent to 48 percent margin in an open seat.
Soto was leading Green by 0.6 percentage points against Republican Florida congressional nominee Dan Green, with the AP yet to call the race as of late Tuesday night.
President Donald Trump won all four of the redrawn seats in the 2024 presidential election. He carried the 14th and 22nd each by 11 points, the 25th by nine and the ninth — where Soto is leading — by 18 points.
The Congressional Leadership Fund, the top House super PAC, slashed $6 million in planned advertising to oppose Moskowitz and redirected $9 million to defend House seats held by Republicans. The No Going Back PAC, a super PAC backed by MAGA Inc., is pouring more than $25 million into House races, including $6.3 million in Florida’s 25th District to help Singer win.
Democrats won major victories in the election cycle, including in red states like Ohio and South Carolina. Republican Florida Sen. Ashley Moody won her race by a three-point margin, 50.9% to 47.9%, against Democratic Florida Senate nominee Angie Nixon.
Republican Florida governor-elect Byron Donalds meanwhile won his race by a two-point margin, 50% to 48%.
Democrats retook the House and Senate after major wins across the U.S. Republicans faced major losses as voters disapproved of Trump’s handling of the Iran war, high prices and corruption.
On the same night, Republicans lost seats in red states and districts across the U.S., including in Texas and Kansas.
