The U.S. military is working to recover the remnants of the suspected Chinese surveillance balloon that was shot down off the coast of South Carolina on Saturday.
The U.S. believes the balloon was monitoring sensitive military sites.
Its discovery set off a diplomatic crisis, with U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken calling off this weekend’s trip to China.
The Chinese authorities denied it was used for spying and insisted it was a weather ship blown astray.
The incident strained relations between China and the U.S., with the Pentagon calling it an “unacceptable violation” of its sovereignty.
The Chinese government has admitted a second balloon spotted over Latin America on Friday is from China – but claimed it is intended for civilian use, the BBC said.
