‘Home of the slaves:’ R&B singer re-writes the National Anthem and it’s ‘sickening’

by

R&B singer Jill Scott butchered the National Anthem at the 2023 Essence Culture Festival in New Orleans, singing, ‘the home of the slaves’ along with many other creative changes to our beloved anthem.

Referring to the black experience in America, Scott sang,  ‘Oh, say, can you see, by the blood in the streets, this place doesn’t smile on you, colored child.’ She also added, ‘Whose blood built this land with sweat and their hands. But we’ll die in this place and your memory erased.’

She goes on: ‘Oh say, does this truth hold any weight? This is not the land of the free but the home of the slaves.’

Pointing out Jill Scott’s net worth of approximately $12 million, GOP Committeewoman and Florida congressional candidate, Laverne Spicer, tweeted out:

The responses to Scott’s rendition of the National Anthem were swift:

A portion of Scott’s version of the anthem was posted online by Essence magazine, proudly.  ‘Everyone please rise for the only National Anthem we will be recognizing from this day forward,’ they posted on July 5th.

Maybe if people stopped paying attention and giving oxygen to the endless America bashing complaint department, they would stop doing it.
