In response to a weekend dig on a Sunday show, former Fox News host Tucker Carlson asked former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie to sit down for an interview to discuss his views on supporting Ukraine. According to Carlson’s Sunday tweet, he refused, and added, “You hate to think that Chris Christie is a blustery coward who plays the tough guy with sycophants at ABC but won’t answer real questions, but who knows?”
The former governor told ABC News’ George Stephanopoulos on Sunday that Carlson has “always been wrong” for not supporting the Ukrainian government amid the Russian invasion.
Carlson, responded by sharing a screenshot on Twitter of Christie’s comments and challenged him to sit-down to discuss it further.
“Sounds like this could use a longer conversation,” Carlson tweeted, “We just asked [Chris Christie] to sit down and explain his views on Ukraine. He refused.”
Sounds like this could use a longer conversation. We just asked @GovChristie to sit down and explain his views on Ukraine. He refused. Carlson has frequently challenged GOP presidential candidates over their support for Ukraine. Last week during the Iowa Family Leadership Summit, the talk show host and former Vice President Mike Pence sparred on the issue.
Over the weekend, Carlson spoke at the Turning Point Action Conference and said that Pence was not a true Christian leader because of his support in sending cluster bombs to Ukraine and for not speaking out about the alleged persecution of Christians by Ukraine’s government.
According to Real Clear Politics, Christie is currently polling near the bottom of the Republican presidential field with support of 2.6% on average nationally, and Mike Pence raised less than $1.2 million for his presidential campaign during the second fundraising quarter that ended June 30, lagging far behind several Republican rivals. Former President Donald Trump’s team announced it had raised $35 million in the second quarter.
