Republican Senator Josh Hawley chewed up and spit out Department of Homeland Security chief Alejandro Mayorkas on Tuesday in the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee hearing.
Armed with a shocking statement by a former employee-turned-whistleblower, Hawley went right for the jugular.
“You’re taking special agents away from investigating child traffickers and child exploitation—when you’ve lost tens of thousands of kids to traffickers—and you’re sending them to make sandwiches at the border,” said Senator Hawley. “What is going on?”
Mayorkas contributed to the hearing with his signature arrogant, weasel-like responses that almost never answered the questions, but Hawley was ready for him.
“Is she wrong?” Hawley demanded. “This is one of your agents, IS SHE WRONG? She says there are at least 600 special agents, at least, pulled off of cases, sent down to the border to babysit illegal immigrants. Is she wrong?”
Mayorkas may as well have answered, “Yep, they are making sandwiches for illegals and letting kids die, so what?” He was literally given a dozen direct calls to deny the claim and he would not.
Watch the exchange, here:
A patriotic whistleblower told me DHS special agents are being pulled off investigating child trafficking to make sandwiches for illegal immigrants at the southern border. Secretary Mayorkas can’t deny it. Watch 👇 pic.twitter.com/9eOq4wPAWQ
