Despite a damaging special counsel report that noted President Joe Biden’s failing memory, he will not be taking a cognitive test as part of his annual physical.
Even after the release of the report on the investigation of Biden’s mishandling of classified material, in which his own Department of Justice referred to his “diminished faculties,” and amid the fallout from the disastrous press conference that followed, Biden’s spokesperson declared that a cognitive test wasn’t necessary.
White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre fielded questions from reporters about the president’s mental acuity on Monday.
“Does the White House think that the idea of the president taking a cognitive test as a part of this physical is a legitimate idea?” one reporter asked during Monday’s press briefing.

“I’m just gonna say what Dr. O’Connor said to me about a year ago when [Biden’s physical] was released,” Jean-Pierre replied, referring to Biden’s physician, Dr. Kevin O’Connor.
“The president proves every day [in] how he operates and how he thinks, by dealing with world leaders, by making difficult decisions on behalf of the American people – whether it’s domestic or it’s national security,” she said.
“That is how Dr. O’Connor sees it, and that is how I’m going to leave it,” Jean-Pierre added.
But reporters continued to press her on the issue as she defended the president, noting how long she has known him and that he is “on top of things.”
“When we have meetings with him and his staff he is constantly pushing us, trying to get more information, and so that has been my experience with this president,” she said, adding that she’s known Biden for more than a decade and she finds him to be “sharp.”

The refusal to submit to a cognitive test amid the ongoing concerns about Biden’s many gaffes and his physical appearance is not going to help win over those who doubt the 81-year-old has the stamina to run the country for another four years. And the refusal to take a test to put to rest any such concerns comes in sharp contrast to actions by former President Donald Trump who discussed Biden’s mental health back in 2020.
Biden “didn’t take a cognitive test because he couldn’t pass one,” Trump told Sean Hannity on Fox News at that time. “I actually took one very recently when I was – when the radical left was saying, is he all there, is he all there?”
Trump was the first president to ever be given a cognitive test as part of his annual physical back in 2018 and he scored 30 out of 30 on the 10-minute test known as the Montreal Cognitive Assessment.
“I prove I was all there because I aced it. I aced the test and he should take the same exact test, Trump told Hannity.
