‘Pay attention’: Bridge collapse draws eerie comparisons to Obama-produced film. Chilling scenes are no coincidence, observers say.

The shocking collapse of Baltimore’s Francis Scott Key Bridge this week has triggered comparisons to a film produced by Barack and Michelle Obama.

A scene from “Leave The World Behind” has drawn renewed interest online as details unfolded on the astonishing destruction of the bridge Monday when a cargo ship lost power and plowed into it. Though terrorism, cyberattacks and other intentional acts have been ruled out in the official responses so far, online users soon pointed to the similar-looking scene in the Obama fictional film about a cargo ship under cyberattack.

“A family’s getaway to a luxurious rental home takes an ominous turn when a cyberattack knocks out their devices — and two strangers appear at their door,” reads the Netflix description of the 2023 film directed by Sam Esmail and starring Julia Roberts, Mahershala Ali, Kevin Bacon and Ethan Hawke. The storyline includes a scene where the oil tanker, named the White Lion, runs ashore on a beach.

The ending of the film caused much chatter at the time and, in light of the Baltimore bridge catastrophe, resurfaced in online discussions.

According to a Variety post about the film last year, in the story, “two families are then forced to exist — and survive — under the same roof as increasingly strange and apocalyptic events occur, including plane crashes, herds of deer filing into the backyard and Archie’s teeth mysteriously falling out.” This leads a character to conclude that “these events could be the result of a military campaign intended to destabilize a nation by forcing people to turn against each other.”

Speculation and theories abounded on X:
