Newly indicted NYC Mayor Eric Adams squashes AOC for suggesting he resign

by

U.S. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez took a shot at her hometown mayor due to “nonstop investigations” as she called for the fellow Democrat to step down.

The New York lawmaker, whose district includes parts of two New York City boroughs, called on New York City Mayor Eric Adams to resign on Wednesday, prompting a scathing rebuke from the retired NYPD captain who was later indicted by federal prosecutors.

“I do not see how Mayor Adams can continue governing New York City,” Ocasio-Cortez wrote on X Wednesday afternoon.

“The flood of resignations and vacancies are threatening gov function,” she wrote. “Nonstop investigations will make it impossible to recruit and retain a qualified administration.”

In response, Adams fired back at the far-left Democrat, calling her out as a hypocrite.

“For anyone who self-righteously claims people charged with serious crimes should not be in jail to now say that the second Black mayor of New York should resign because of rumors and innuendo — without even a single charge being filed — is the height of hypocrisy,” Adams said in a statement to Fox News Digital. “I am leading this city to protect it from exactly that kind of phony politics. The people of this city elected me to fight for them, and I will stay and fight no matter what.”

Members of Adams’s administration including Adams himself had their homes raided by FBI agents and their cell phones were seized in the campaign corruption investigation.

Later Wednesday, a Manhattan grand jury indicted the New York City mayor but details remain under seal.
