Democratic strategist James Carville on Thursday downplayed concerns over migrant-related murders and transgender surgeries.
Former President Donald Trump’s campaign has been running advertisements targeting Vice President Kamala Harris on these issues. Carville, on his “Politics War Room” podcast, responded to a listener’s allegation that “Republicans only care about gun violence when immigrants are involved” by arguing such incidents are rare, adding that he also believes transgender issues are minimal. “The truth of the matter is the number of … noncitizen people here, their crime rate among this is significantly lower than it is among native born Americans. It happened here in Georgia; it was unfortunate, but it’s much rarer,” Carville said. “They exaggerate everything. It’s horrifically exaggerated story. Just like — I was in Texas and I was watching, ’cause I had the World Series on, I happened to be watching the local Fox News — not Fox News Network, but, you know, the sports Fox — and it was all transgender and reproductive rights.”
Venezuelan illegal immigrant Jose Ibarra allegedly killed 22-year-old Georgia nursing student Laken Riley in February. Immigration and Customs Enforcement recorded a total of 13,099 non-detained illegal immigrants convicted of homicide currently in the United States as of July 21, according to a September letter.
“There’s so few transition surgeries and murders of American citizens by noncitizen, not-born-here people, it’s almost infinitesimal,” he continued. “And it’s just stunning that this is what they run, they must think this works, because they’re spending hundreds of millions of dollars promoting it. I don’t think I know a transgender person. I mean, I probably do, and I just don’t know or don’t care.”
Harris has previously indicated she supports tax-payer funded sex changes for transgender prison inmates and illegal immigrants.
