President-elect Donald Trump is establishing key players as he moves ahead with the mandate Americans delivered on election night.
Making good on his promise to tackle the immigration disaster wrought by the administration of President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris, Trump announced who will be playing the important role of “policing and controlling” US borders.
“I am pleased to announce that the Former ICE Director, and stalwart on Border Control, Tom Homan, will be joining the Trump Administration, in charge of our Nation’s Borders (“The Border Czar”),” Trump shared in a social media message Sunday, “including, but not limited to, the Southern Border, the Northern Border, all Maritime, and Aviation Security.”
Homan, an outspoken critic of current border policies and a staunch supporter of Trump, served as acting director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and is presently a Fox News contributor.
“I’ve known Tom for a long time, and there is nobody better at policing and controlling our Borders,” the incoming 47th president added. “Likewise, Tom Homan will be in charge of all Deportation of Illegal Aliens back to their Country of Origin.”
“Congratulations to Tom. I have no doubt he will do a fantastic, and long awaited for, jo,” Trump wrote.
Ahead of Trump’s announcement, Homan appeared on Fox News, telling host Maria Bartiromo that, contrary to fear-mongering by Democrats and the left, ICE will implement the 47th president’s plans in a “humane manner” and there will be no rumored rounding up of illegal migrants by the US military.
“You concentrate on the public safety threats and the national security threats first. Those are the worst of the worst,” Homan said on “Sunday Morning Futures.”
“It’s going to be a well-targeted, planned operation conducted by the men of ICE. The men and women of ICE do this daily. They’re good at it,” he said. “When we go out there, we’re going to know who we’re looking for. We most likely know where they’re going to be, and it’s going to be done in a humane manner.”
Trump’s announcement about Homan came as he rolled out steps in setting up his new administration. Also on Sunday, the president-elect announced that Rep. Elise Stefanik was nominated to be United Nations ambassador.
“I am honored to nominate Chairwoman Elise Stefanik to serve in my Cabinet as U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations. Elise is an incredibly strong, tough, and smart America First fighter,” he told the New York Post on Sunday.
The New York Republican, who will need to be confirmed by the Senate for the position, was re-elected Tuesday and now the seat will need to be filled in a special election. She accepted Trump’s offer and explained she was “deeply humbled” by the offer.
“I am truly honored to earn President Trump’s nomination to serve in his Cabinet as U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations,” Stefanik told the outlet. “During my conversation with President Trump, I shared how deeply humbled I am to accept his nomination and that I look forward to earning the support of my colleagues in the United States Senate.”
Currently serving as chair of the House Republican Conference, Stefanik will be stepping into the role Nikki Haley held during the first Trump administration.
