A judge sentenced an Ohio woman to a year in prison, calling her act of eating a cat “repulsive” and telling her she was a national embarrassment.
Allexis T. Ferrell, 27, of Canton, was arrested in August and accused of “stomping” on a cat’s head before eating it, according to a criminal complaint, Fox8 reported.
“Ferrell was indicted Aug. 21 on a charge of cruelty to companion animals. She initially pleaded not guilty, but on Monday changed her plea to guilty. A judge sentenced her to 12 months in prison, court filings show,” the outlet reported.

“To me, you represent quite a danger to your community,” Stark County Common Pleas Judge Frank Forchione told Ferrell.
“This is repulsive to me,” he added. “I mean that anyone would do this to an animal. And an animal’s like a child. I don’t know if you understand that or not.”
“They bring a lot of love to a lot of people. They don’ have a voice. But their voice today is me. I’m going to exercise this voice very loudly,” the judge continued, telling Ferrell that he was unable to “express the disappointment, shock, disgust that this crime has brought to me.”
“You’ve embarrassed this county,” the judge told her. “You’ve embarrassed this nation. More importantly, you’ve embarrassed yourself.”
In April 2023, Ferrell was sentenced to three years probation on a felony count of endangering children, Fox8 reported, citing court records.
“Due to the new conviction, she will now serve an additional 18 months in prison on those charges, for a total sentence of 30 months,” the outlet noted. “She was also resentenced to six months in prison on charges of theft and misuse of credit cards, to which she originally pleaded guilty in October 2019. She drew a six-month sentence which will be served concurrent with her other cases.”
