An all-time classic! Trump tells Trudeau at Mar-a-Lago that Canada could become the 51st state

New details about the meeting between Donald Trump and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau have caused many to chuckle at the president-elect’s “savage” humor.

Trudeau embarked on a hasty trip to Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach, Florida last week after Trump threatened he would be imposing a 25% tariff on Canada and Mexico if they did not stem the flow of illegal immigrants and illicit drugs pouring across shared borders.

Trump called the meet-up “very productive” but sources noted a moment at the dinner table during the nearly three-hour conversation that radio host James Golden, aka Bo Snerdley, called “an all time classic” move by the former and future president.

“Before nibbling on crab cocktail and slurping down oysters, the issues of tariffs, border security and trade deficits were front and center,” Fox News reported Monday night. “According to two people at the table who heard the discussion, Trump, while cordial and welcoming, was very direct when it came to what he wants from his counterpart to the North.”

Trump reportedly noted the more than $100 billion U.S. trade deficit with Canada as he spoke to the PM about the immigration and drug problem at the border. When he reiterated his plan to impose a 25% tariff on all Canadian goods on his first day back in the White House, Trudeau pushed back.

The Canadian leader reportedly told Trump that levying the tariff would completely kill the Canadian economy. According to sources, the president-elect responded in true Trump fashion.

“Trump then suggested to Trudeau that Canada become the 51st state, which caused the prime minister and others to laugh nervously, sources told Fox News,” the outlet noted. “But he continued, telling Trudeau that prime minister is a better title, though he could still be governor of the 51st state.”

Sources also told Fox News that there was even more laughter from the table when someone suggested Canada would be a “liberal state” while Trump suggested the U.S. neighbor could become two states, one conservative and the other liberal.

Social media users agreed with Snerdley that the moment was “classic” Trump and celebrated a new day in America.
