Hawley calls for new inspector general to investigate EVERY PENNY spent on Ukraine

by

The potential for corrupt spending in Ukraine under the Biden administration prompted one U.S. senator to call for an investigation into how “every penny” was used.

“It’s time for a special inspector general dedicated to auditing EVERY PENNY spent on Ukraine,” Sen. Josh Hawley (R-Mo.) wrote Tuesday in a post on X.

The GOP lawmaker followed up with another post vowing to introduce legislation that would track U.S. dollars set for Ukraine in its ongoing war with Russia.

“I will again introduce on the floor of the Senate legislation to create a watchdog whose *sole responsibility* is auditing every dollar spent on Ukraine – and reporting back to the American people,” Hawley wrote.

Speaking on Fox News’s “The Ingraham Angle” last week, the Missouri Republican contended that Congress would never have allowed an audit when Democrats were in control under the Biden administration.

“You know, what else needs to happen is, we need an accounting of every single tax dollar that’s been spent over there. Because remember, right now we have zero because Congress never would vote for an audit of the money and the White House, the Biden White House never would do one,” Hawley told host Laura Ingraham.

“We need to know exactly how this money has been spent all these years. And if you think [the U.S. Agency for International Development] is a corrupt thing, just wait till we see how our money has been spent,” he continued. “We need to know it. And I’m glad the president is going to bring this to a close.”

Hawley’s latest posts on the need for an investigation were met with comments from X users urging him to pursue the effort.

Other X users bluntly told the senator that Congress had failed in its responsibility and that lawmakers should just let Elon Musk and the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) handle it.
