Karoline Leavitt left the White House in August — now we know where she’s headed next

by

BS BULLETIN:

  • Former White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt is joining Fox News as an on-air contributor beginning Nov. 1.
  • Leavitt left the Trump administration in August, saying she wanted more time with her two young children.
  • The move brings her back to familiar territory: she interned at Fox News during the 2016 presidential election.

Karoline Leavitt is trading the White House briefing room for Fox News.

Fox News Media announced Monday that President Donald Trump’s former press secretary will join the network as an on-air contributor beginning Nov. 1, providing political commentary and analysis across its programming.

Fox News Media CEO Suzanne Scott pointed specifically to Leavitt’s experience both inside the White House and on Trump’s presidential campaign.

“Karoline’s firsthand experience in the White House and on the presidential campaign trail gives her a distinct understanding of today’s political landscape,” Scott said.

Leavitt said she plans to bring the “same energy and candor” that characterized her time behind the White House podium to Fox’s audience.

The 29-year-old served as Trump’s press secretary from January 2025 until August 2026 and became the youngest person in U.S. history to hold the job.

Her departure from the administration came after the birth of her second child. Leavitt said at the time that the demands of serving as White House press secretary had become difficult to reconcile with being the mother she wanted to be to her two young children.

She didn’t leave Trump’s political orbit.

Leavitt returned to MAGA Inc., the Trump-aligned super PAC where she had worked before joining Trump’s 2024 campaign, and Trump said when announcing her departure that she would remain an outside adviser and an influential Republican voice.

Now she’ll add television contributor to the résumé. And in one respect, the move brings Leavitt full circle.

Before working for Trump, running for Congress in New Hampshire and eventually becoming White House press secretary, Leavitt interned at Fox News while attending Saint Anselm College during the 2016 presidential election.

She also joins a rather well-established White House-to-cable-news pipeline.

Former Trump press secretary Kayleigh McEnany went to Fox News after Trump’s first administration and is now a co-host of “Outnumbered.” George W. Bush press secretary Dana Perino became a Fox contributor after leaving government and went on to become one of the network’s prominent hosts.

On the Democratic side, former Biden press secretary Jen Psaki made the same basic trip in the other ideological direction, joining MSNBC — now MS NOW — after leaving the White House.

Trump, meanwhile, has not yet announced Leavitt’s replacement at the White House.

MY QUICK TAKE

There used to be a joke in Washington that the White House press secretary spent all day arguing with cable news and then eventually got hired by cable news.

At this point, I’m not sure it’s a joke. It may be the career ladder.

Dana Perino did it. Kayleigh McEnany did it. Jen Psaki did it. Now Karoline Leavitt gets her turn.

But Leavitt isn’t disappearing into television punditry after leaving politics. She’s remaining connected to Trump’s political operation while simultaneously becoming a Fox contributor.

And after spending nearly two years staring down reporters from behind the podium, she’ll finally get the one thing every White House press secretary secretly dreams about: Nobody in the briefing room gets a follow-up.
