Trump: Week 6

by

President Donald Trump’s sixth week in office was filled with more political victories and a continuation of the breakneck speed with which he has tackled his agenda since returning to the White House.

Following is a recap of some of his administration accomplishments in the latest week of whirlwind activities, including his first Cabinet meeting and welcoming world leaders to the Oval Office.

Setting Zelenskyy straight

At the top of the list is Friday’s dramatic exchange between Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who arrived at the White House to sign a minerals agreement and discuss an end to the war with Russia.

But after a cordial start, and a comical trolling of the Ukraine leader’s attire by Trump when he first arrived, things got heated as Zelenskyy miscalculated the new administration. While Americans generally sympathized with Ukraine after Russia’s invasion, the line was crossed when Zelenskyy went toe to toe with Trump and appeared to be ungrateful and demanding.

Speaking to reporters after Zelenskyy left without a deal, the president said the Ukrainian “very much overplayed his hand.”

“We’re looking for peace,” Trump said.

Cabinet meeting

Trump met with his hand-picked Cabinet, many just having been confirmed in the last days.

“We’ve put together a great Cabinet. And we’ve had tremendous success. We’ve been given a lot of credit for having a very successful first month, and we want to make that many months — and years, actually,” Trump said.

The president addressed many of the issues he is targeting with policies, as he updated on the economy, immigration, and other topics.

Following the meeting with his leaders, many of the Secretaries took part in what was called the “first-ever Rose Garden media row,”

Meeting with the UK Prime Minister and French President

The president welcomed UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer on his first visit to the White House where the two held a press conference and answered reporters’ questions. The prime minister pulled out an official letter from King Charles III inviting Trump for a second state visit. When Trump was asked if the British leader had convinced him not to impose trade tariffs on the UK, the president joked that “he tried”, adding: “He was working hard, I’ll tell you that. He earned whatever the hell they pay him over there.”

Earlier in the week, Trump welcomed back French President Emmanuel Macron to the White House.

Golden Age of Investing

The “Trump Effect” saw major announcements from Apple and Eli Lilly that their companies will be investing billions in the U.S.

Apple announced its largest-ever commitment with plans to invest more than $500 billion in the U.S. over the next four years. The tech giant will also be building a new factory in Texas, as well as expanding facilities in several other states. Pharmaceutical giant Eli Lilly announced a $27 billion investment to build four new U.S. manufacturing plants.

Executive Orders

The president continued to implement his agenda this week by taking more executive actions, including suspending the security clearances for any attorneys who assisted former Special Counsel Jack Smith. In another order, the president directed “healthcare price transparency regulations, which were slow walked by the prior administration.”

In yet another order, the president worked to rein in government waste while implementing the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) cost efficiency initiative.

DEI lawsuits dismissed

Several Biden-era lawsuits against police and fire departments were dismissed this week as discriminatory “diversity, equity, and inclusion” initiatives were declared over by the administration.

“These lawsuits, launched by the previous administration, unjustly targeted fire and police departments for using standard aptitude tests to screen firefighter and police officer candidates,” a DOJ press release stated.

If all the winning was not enough, including the unprecedented extradition of 29 cartel leaders from Mexico, Trump made time to connect with visitors to the White House.
