Egg prices start dropping by double digits and Dems are clucked again

by

Democrats who love to blame President Donald Trump for every ill brought upon Americans by his predecessor now can stop whining about eggs.

Days after Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins shared strategies that would tackle the soaring egg prices, she announced that there is light at the end of the tunnel.

“We’re more focused on how we bring the price of eggs down and the avian bird flu for everyone,” she told reporters on Tuesday. “A good piece of news we just got in the last day or two is that the average cost of a dozen eggs has gone down $1.85 since we announced our plan about a week and a half ago.”

According to the USDA, egg prices soared to $8 and more per dozen and have now fallen to $6.08 as of Tuesday.

The shortage of eggs and the demise of chickens, with 160 million being killed due to the outbreak of avian flu under the Biden administration, have been a focus of the Trump administration’s efforts to help American consumers. During his address to Congress last week, Trump said that former President Joe Biden “let the price of eggs get out of control.”

But Democrats have blamed Trump for everything from causing the problem to not moving fast enough to fix it. Social media users were sure the news of falling egg prices would precipitate another meltdown.

“Trumponomics sucks,” Democrat Rep. Ted Lieu said. “His tariffs are increasing prices. Firing ppl working on bird flu will make eggs more expensive. GOP budget cuts $880 BILLION of Medicaid & hurts the middle class—all so billionaires get richer.”

“The Democratic Party will have no talking points once the price of eggs fall,” one X user noted as others predicted the left’s reaction.

“Trump should apologize for falling egg prices,” quipped another.

“Egg prices are plummeting since President Trump took action! You’d think this dramatic drop would be headline news, right? But now that the issue is solved, the MSM will just move on to the next thing they can blame Trump for,” Rep. Wesley Hunt’s X account noted.

Rollins announced last month that the Department of Agriculture would be spending $1 billion to address the issue, including launching a strategy to fight the H5N1 bird flu.

“The Biden administration did little to address the repeated outbreaks and high egg prices that followed. By contrast, the Trump administration is taking the issue seriously. To that end, today I am announcing a comprehensive strategy to combat avian influenza,” Rollins wrote in an op-ed for The Wall Street Journal.

“The Agriculture Department will invest up to $1 billion to curb this crisis and make eggs affordable again. We are working with the Department of Government Efficiency to cut hundreds of millions of dollars of wasteful spending. We will repurpose some of those dollars by investing in long-term solutions to avian flu, which has resulted in about 166 million laying hens being culled since 2022,” the secretary continued.

On Tuesday, Rollins told reporters she expects the prices for eggs to tick back up in the coming weeks due to the Easter holiday.

“This is always the highest price for eggs. We expect it to perhaps inch back up, but a good piece of news since we released our plan about a week and a half ago,” she said.
