Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez attempted to shame Republicans for a government shutdown but ended up with a stinging reality check.
The New York Democrat blasted the GOP in a post on X as she reacted to comments by House Speaker Mike Johnson on a temporary spending bill. Johnson called on Democrats and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., to avert a government shutdown before Friday night’s deadline.
Every House Democrat except one voted to essentially shut down the government by not agreeing with a continuing resolution to keep the government funded through the end of September.
“Chuck Schumer needs to decide: will Senate Democrats keep the government funded or will they join House Democrats and shut it down?” Johnson asked.
Ocasio-Cortez fired back with an attempt to blame Republicans but found she was just spitting in the wind.
Republicans run the House, the Senate, and the White House.
You run the government. If you have the votes, then go ahead.
If you need Democrats, then you need to negotiate with Democrats.
Those are your two options. Blaming someone else because your shoes are untied isn’t one. https://t.co/O8LCBf1Pl2

“Republicans run the House, the Senate, and the White House. You run the government. If you have the votes, then go ahead,” she wrote. “If you need Democrats, then you need to negotiate with Democrats. Those are your two options. Blaming someone else because your shoes are untied isn’t one.”
But X users said not so fast, calling out the congresswoman for her ignorance.
“AOC doesn’t know what a CR is. Incredible,” Trump adviser Stephen Miller posted. “When both sides disagree on government funding…Congress passes a CR. It just means: continue funding tomorrow at the same levels being spent today.”
“The Senate requires more than a simple majority,” Fox News contributor Joe Concha wrote. “AOC knows this. She also knows her followers likely do not. Hence…”
AOC thinks she’s so smart but she just doesn’t get it, Dems are always playing games with people’s lives, shutdowns are their fault too.
Typical liberal tactic, blame the other side while they’re the ones causing chaos, Speaker Johnson is right to call out Schumer and the Senate…

They don’t need you, what you need is to figure out what you are going to say to your constituents on April 1 when that check doesn’t show up and you voted no.
