Patrick Clancy begged doctors to ‘just give me one’ — then his baby died in his arms

Patrick Clancy has revealed the agonizing final moments he spent with his youngest child after Lindsay Clancy killed their three children — including the desperate prayer that at least one might survive.

In his first major television interview since Lindsay’s murder trial ended with a hung jury, Patrick told CBS’s “60 Minutes” that doctors initially restored 8-month-old Callan’s heartbeat.

For a moment, Patrick allowed himself to imagine that his youngest child might live.

“Just give me one. Just give me one kid,” Patrick recalled thinking.

He said he imagined raising Callan and someday telling him about his brother Dawson and sister Cora.

That hope disappeared when Patrick arrived at Boston Children’s Hospital and saw the expression on a doctor’s face.

Callan survived for four days. Patrick remained with him until the end. “I said, ‘I’m so sorry,’” Patrick told correspondent Ross Douthat. Patrick said he was able to hold Callan and lie beside him as his son died in his arms.

While Callan was still alive, Patrick began writing down memories of all three children because he was terrified that details about their lives would eventually fade.

Those writings also contained something that has become one of the most debated parts of the Clancy tragedy: Patrick’s forgiveness of Lindsay.

Patrick said Lindsay has never asked him to forgive her.

He forgave her anyway.

Patrick said he believes mental illness caused Lindsay to kill Cora, 5, Dawson, 3, and Callan, and that holding onto anger would have consumed him.

He also revealed that when he asked Lindsay whether she remembered killing the children, she told him it was like remembering a dream after waking up.

The interview comes after Lindsay’s high-profile murder trial ended Sept. 4 in a mistrial.

Jurors reportedly split 11-1, with 11 favoring a finding that Lindsay was not criminally responsible and one juror holding out for conviction. Prosecutors have not announced whether they will retry her.

Patrick also confronted the online frenzy that erupted around the case.

Douthat described it as a “trial by TikTok,” with online commentators advancing theories portraying Patrick as uncaring or unfaithful and even accusing him of involvement in his children’s deaths.

Patrick said the accusations are “deeply harmful to the legacy of my children.”

He also explained the stoic appearance on the witness stand that fueled some of the online speculation.

Patrick said that before jurors heard the 911 call from the night his children died, he suffered what he described as a massive traumatic panic attack backstage.

An ambulance was called and he was offered medication, but Patrick said he refused it because he wanted to return to court and finish his testimony.

Patrick eventually left Duxbury for New York City, where he said the anonymity allowed him to grieve without strangers watching him.

He has since married Dr. Rachel Danis, whom he met through a New York running club in 2024.

The couple told “60 Minutes” they are now starting a family.

Patrick said any future child will grow up knowing about the three siblings who came before.

“I can’t wait to tell them about their brothers and sister.”
