THE DAILY BS: HOW MUCH CAN YOU HANDLE?

SPARE ME THE BS (I’ve got things to do)

  • Kamala Harris introduced sitting Georgia Sen. Jon Ossoff as ‘the next’ senator before changing the wording.
  • Separate clips of Harris’s Georgia remarks drew accusations from conservative commentators of switching accents.
  • The former vice president also spoke about a ‘Role Model Club’ and returned to the microphone for additional advice.

LAY IT ON ME (I’ve got time)

Kamala Harris is back on the trail, and Georgia voters are experiencing her distinctive approach to public speaking. This time she managed to introduce someone who already holds a Senate seat as the state’s next senator.

At a Thursday rally for incumbent Democratic Sen. Jon Ossoff, Harris began: ‘Let’s hear it for Jon Ossoff.’ Then came the recovery: ‘The next … and continuing senator from the state of Georgia.’ Incumbency, Kamala-style.

The New York Post highlighted the stumble as Harris campaigned for Democrats ahead of November 3. She also criticized Trump administration tariffs, economic policy and federal spending decisions.

Harris thanked campaign volunteers for their work and told them they belonged to what she called the ‘Role Model Club.’ ‘I came here today to thank you in advance for all you will do in your lifetime,’ she said. That motivational message took a winding route through excellence, inspiration and being yourself.

When she appeared to finish, supporters encouraged her to continue. ‘OK, I got some more advice,’ she said, returning to the microphone. Somebody should check whether the event had an advertised overtime policy.

A separate Georgia clip produced fresh criticism of her delivery. Harris emphasized a familiar political point — judge public officials by their actions — using the phrase: ‘We too busy watchin’ what ya doin’ to listenin’ what ya sayin.’

Conservative commentators portrayed the cadence as an example of accent switching. Others argue that speakers naturally adjust rhythm and vocabulary with their audiences. Either way, the dispute has followed Harris since her 2024 campaign appearances.

The rallies were intended to mobilize votes for Democrats, including Ossoff. Yet the viral footage turned attention to Harris’s presentation rather than the campaign’s policy message. That’s the danger of inviting a famous political surrogate: her own headlines can elbow the candidate offstage.

Harris finally clarified the most important detail. Jon Ossoff already is a senator. And he’d like to continue being one.
