Trump’s ambitious Greenland acquisition plan includes $10,000 payments for residents, NY Times

President Donald Trump aims to acquire Greenland through persuasion, not military force, and details of his plan have been revealed in a new report.

Part of the president’s plan is reportedly offering annual payments of $10,000 to each of the island’s residents, according to The New York Times. This initiative marks a significant shift from mere rhetoric to formal U.S. policy, as the administration seeks to persuade Greenlanders to join the United States amid rising geopolitical tensions in the Arctic.

The focus is on Greenland’s strategic importance and natural resources. As the world’s largest island, Greenland has gained attention due to its strategic location and vast natural resources, including rare earth minerals, oil, and uranium.

The centerpiece of Trump’s plan reportedly includes giving each of Greenland’s approximately 57,000 residents $10,000, aimed at making the prospect of joining the U.S. more appealing. The U.S. government believes that the financial burden of these payments could be offset by the revenue generated from Greenland’s untapped natural resources.

The administration plans to utilize advertising and social media to highlight the shared heritage between Greenland’s Inuit population and the Inuit people of Alaska, fostering a sense of connection.

Danish officials have asserted that Greenland is not for sale and that its future should be determined by its residents. Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen has condemned the U.S. administration’s approach, emphasizing that annexation is not an option.

Despite the pushback, Trump remains resolute, stating, “One way or the other, we’re going to get it.”

“It’s really important to our national security,” Vice President JD Vance, who visited Greenland last month, told Fox News. There are sea lanes there that the Chinese use, that the Russians use that, frankly, Denmark – which controls Greenland – it’s not doing its job and being a good ally. So you have to ask yourself, how are we going to solve that problem, solve our own national security?”

  1. Alaska residents get royalty payments associated to petroleum production every year. This seems a similar plan for Greenland. The population is small in Greenland and comparatively, the future mineral & petroleum production would more than cover the costs of this plan. Biden was paying More than $10,000 per illegal alien per year just to vote & apply for more benefits pear, most likely $75,00. Per family for medical, SNAP & housing costs, with no value in return to the USA.
