U.S. Rep. Eric Swalwell stepped on a rake in his attempt to dunk on President Donald Trump.
The California Democrat tried to take credit after predicting that “Trump will cave on tariffs,” but his gloating was short-lived as social media unloaded on the lawmaker and his infamous interaction with a suspected Chinese spy.
“Just like I TOLD YOU,” Swalwell wrote in a post on X after China and the United States announced a 90-day reduction on tariffs.
Just like I TOLD YOU.
Trump caves on China.
Thank you! YOU went to the town halls and town squares.
WE did this. https://t.co/6pOVlg4ZzR

“Trump caves on China,” Swalwell continued. “Thank you! YOU went to the town halls and town squares. WE did this.”
To emphasize his point, the Democrat included his post from April predicting, “If we push with everything we’ve got, we can make that coward cave.”
But Swalwell’s crowing did not get him the kind of attention he was seeking as X users blasted his “mental gymnastics.”
Gaining 11% in tariffs to protect US production and lower the deficit is caving?
That was literally his stated plan from the start….

This is some serious mental gymnastics 😂😂😂😂
Whatever you need to tell yourself.

U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent touted the “very positive process” after trade negotiations in Geneva, Switzerland, over the weekend.
“We have reached an agreement on a 90-day pause and substantially move down the tariff levels. Both sides on the reciprocal tariffs will move their tariffs down 115%,” Bessent said at a news conference.
“We concluded that we have a shared interest,” he added. “The consensus from both delegations is that neither side wanted a decoupling.”
Many X users blasted Swlawell’s comments by reminding him about his own history.
It’s probably a good idea that the congressman refrain from commenting on anything to do with China. https://t.co/xDsBwxRjlZ

Eric Swalwell might cave to Chinese spies, but President Trump did not cave to China on trade.

Just like that, Eric Swalwell is lying and pandering again.

We prob should have put Eric in charge of negotiations with China since he’s so connected this deal may have happened sooner. 😆

Caving is sleeping with a Chinese spy.
Securing a deal that strengthens U.S. industries through diplomacy?
That’s called WINNING. 🇺🇸— B. Right ☀️✝️🇺🇸 (@BonX41A) May 12, 2025
