Trump considers ‘restrictions’ for Commanders if they refuse to change name back to Redskins

by

President Donald Trump has put the Washington Commanders’ stadium plans in D.C. on notice, making it clear that a return to the revered ‘Redskins’ moniker is a desired condition for any deal.

Trump, ever the champion of common sense and American heritage, didn’t mince words on Truth Social this past Sunday.

“My statement on the Washington Redskins has totally blown up, but only in a very positive way,” Trump declared in a follow-up Truth Social post, highlighting the overwhelming public support for his stance. “I may put a restriction on them that if they don’t change the name back to the original ‘Washington Redskins,’ and get rid of the ridiculous moniker, ‘Washington Commanders,’ I won’t make a deal for them to build a Stadium in Washington. The Team would be much more valuable, and the Deal would be more exciting for everyone.”

The President then urged Cleveland to follow this patriotic lead.

“Cleveland should do the same with the Cleveland Indians. The Owner of the Cleveland Baseball Team, Matt Dolan, who is very political, has lost three Elections in a row because of that ridiculous name change,” Trump asserted, connecting the team’s misguided decision to political consequences. “What he doesn’t understand is that if he changed the name back to the Cleveland Indians, he might actually win an Election. Indians are being treated very unfairly. MAKE INDIANS GREAT AGAIN (MIGA)!” This powerful call to action underscores the need to push back against the erosion of traditional American symbols.

For clarity, Paul Dolan is the team owner, while Matt Dolan holds a minority stake in the organization and is a prominent political figure.

Fox News Digital reached out to the Commanders for comment on this vital issue.

Trump’s initial demand, made earlier on Sunday, resonated deeply with a nation tired of political correctness dictating cultural norms. “The Washington ‘Whatever’s’ should IMMEDIATELY change their name back to the Washington Redskins Football Team. There is a big clamoring for this,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “Likewise, the Cleveland Indians, one of the six original baseball teams, with a storied past.

“Our great Indian people, in massive numbers, want this to happen. Their heritage and prestige is systematically being taken away from them. Times are different now than they were three or four years ago. We are a Country of passion and common sense. OWNERS, GET IT DONE!!!” This is a direct challenge to the woke agenda that seeks to erase history and tradition.

Guardians president Chris Antonetti offered a rather tepid response to Trump’s common-sense pressure, stating it wasn’t something the organization was actively considering. “But I would say generally, I understand that there are very different perspectives on the decision we made a few years ago,” he said, via Cleveland.com. “Obviously it’s a decision we’ve made and we’ve gotten the opportunity to build the brand as the Guardians over the last four years and are excited about the future.”

The Guardians had no additional comment on Trump’s posts.

Commanders team owner Josh Harris was notably present with President Trump, D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser, and NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell in the Oval Office when the RFK Stadium site deal was announced.

Indeed, Congressional lawmakers, led by principled conservatives, have supported Harris’s pursuit of the old stadium site, but with a crucial condition: that the team and NFL honor the old Redskins logo. Sen. Steve Daines, R-Mont. rightly called the cancellation of the Redskins logo a case of “woke gone wrong,” a sentiment echoed by millions of Americans.

“We were calling out leaders in case of really, woke gone wrong,” Daines powerfully stated at the time. “The irony that they were canceling Native American culture as the DEI movement went way too far. This is honoring a Blackfeet chief who was born in Montana. He is highly esteemed. The Blackfeet tribe of Montana, their current chairman and tribal council signed a letter in strong support to bring the logo back. It honors Indian Country.

“We have good discussions with the NFL and with the Commanders. There’s good faith in negotiations going forward that’s going to allow this logo to be used again. Perhaps revenues going to a foundation that could help Native Americans in sports and so forth. We’re making good progress and, based on the good faith negotiations, I made a decision to support this bill yesterday in the committee.” This demonstrates a clear path to respecting heritage while supporting Native American communities, a stark contrast to the divisive narratives pushed by the left.

However, Harris, in an interview on Fox News Channel’s “Special Report,” unfortunately made it clear there were no plans to bring back the Redskins name.

“The Commanders’ name actually has taken on an amazing kind of element in our building,” Harris responded to Bret Baier’s question about the Redskins name coming back as part of this new stadium deal. “So, the people that certain types of players that are tough, that love football, are delegated Commanders and Jayden [Daniels], for example, is a Commander, and they’re ranked.

“And, you know, the business staff has gotten into it, and obviously, we’re in a military city here. There’s more military personnel than anywhere else, so we’re kind of moving forward with the Commanders name, excited about that, and not looking back.”

  1. Leave this sort of stuff alone and to the teams and fans. Not something a President should bother with. ust more democrat chum.

  2. I would say that PDJT47 has overstepped this one.
To me, it’s not for Gooberment to say and decide, it’s for the people, for free market capitalism, to decide.
My suggestion (as I have little to no interest in this, I have not, and will not, be going to a pro football game), let the Head Honcho advertise, “We’re going to decide if we want to change the team name or not. And all you fans and ticket buyers will decide it for us. For the next (1? 5? 10?) games, we’ll make all tickets available online to buy with either the “Commanders” or “Redskins” team names and logos. At the end of the games, we’ll count the numbers of tickets bought under each name, winner takes all. Thank you”.

  3. We are getting to the point of too many teams fall under the category of “The Team which must not be named”.
And you can’t rely on the city part being accurate either. SF Niners home stadium is 2 counties away from SF and the Oakland Athletics are about 90 miles from Oakland.
