FBI Director Patel unearths secret trove of key documents in ‘burn bags’ linked to Trump–Russia

by

In a stunning development that could reshape public understanding of the Trump–Russia investigation, FBI Director Kash Patel has uncovered a cache of sensitive and potentially explosive documents stashed inside a secret room at FBI headquarters. According to multiple sources who spoke exclusively to Fox News Digital, the trove was found inside several “burn bags”—containers typically used to destroy top-secret material—hidden in a previously undisclosed Sensitive Compartmented Information Facility (SCIF).

The documents, which span thousands of pages, include key materials relating to the origins of the FBI’s now-discredited Crossfire Hurricane probe, launched in 2016 to investigate alleged links between the Trump campaign and Russian operatives. Notably, among the documents discovered was the classified annex to former special counsel John Durham’s final report—an annex that outlines the intelligence Durham reviewed during his investigation.

The process of declassifying this annex is currently being coordinated at the highest levels, involving CIA Director John Ratcliffe, Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard, Attorney General Pam Bondi, and acting NSA Director William Hartman. Once the declassification is complete, the document will be transmitted to Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley, who is expected to release it publicly.

Fox News sources familiar with the annex’s content say it includes credible intelligence from foreign sources that suggested, before Crossfire Hurricane even began, that elements within the FBI planned to fuel a narrative tying Trump to Russia. “It’s really hard to see how Brennan, Clapper and Comey are going to be able to explain this away,” one anonymous source stated, referencing former CIA Director John Brennan, former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper, and former FBI Director James Comey.

The discovery is also politically charged amid the recent July 2025 release of newly declassified documents by DNI Tulsi Gabbard. Gabbard appeared at the White House press briefing room to unveil evidence she characterized as exposing the “manufactured nature” of the Trump–Russia collusion claims. “This isn’t just political history—it’s about restoring public trust in our institutions,” Gabbard told reporters.

The latest revelations stem from an investigative request issued by Sen. Grassley, who has long sought to uncover the full scope of government actions taken during and after the 2016 election. Grassley’s office confirmed they are now reviewing the documents obtained by Patel.

In a June 2025 interview with podcast host Joe Rogan, Patel hinted at the magnitude of his findings. “Just think about this,” he said. “Me, as director of the FBI—the former ‘Russiagate guy’—when I first got to the bureau, found a room that Comey and others hid from the world in the Hoover Building, full of documents and computer hard drives that no one had ever seen or heard of.”

The room had reportedly been locked away during the tenure of former FBI directors James Comey and Christopher Wray. Fox News Digital reached out to both for comment but has yet to receive a response.

While the exact nature of all the documents remains unclear, Patel’s team continues to review materials related to sensitive investigations, including the original Crossfire Hurricane probe. Sources say some records may shed light on alleged intelligence community malfeasance and internal coordination intended to aid Hillary Clinton’s 2016 campaign by pushing a collusion narrative.

A source familiar with the classified annex noted, “With the benefit of hindsight, it predicted the FBI’s next move with alarming specificity.” The implication: U.S. intelligence agencies may have had advance knowledge of a coordinated attempt to discredit Trump, well before the FBI officially launched its probe.

Durham was appointed to lead a review after former special counsel Robert Mueller concluded his extensive investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election. Durham’s report raised serious concerns about how intelligence was handled, but much of the supporting material was kept classified—until now.

As the political stakes continue to rise in the lead-up to the 2026 midterm elections, Patel’s findings could become a defining issue. With ongoing congressional reviews and mounting public scrutiny, the full truth behind Crossfire Hurricane and its origins may finally be coming to light.

  1. Nope. We have had our hopes raised so many times before, and just like those fizzlers absolutely nothing will come of this one.
