Fox News host Jesse Watters stirred the proverbial pot on The Five Monday when he jokingly suggested that actress Sydney Sweeney might one day marry Barron Trump, the youngest son of President Donald Trump. The speculation came as part of a broader segment discussing backlash against Sweeney’s recent American Eagle jeans campaign and Trump’s vocal support of it.
“They’ve called a blonde-haired, blue-eyed actress a Nazi for a week,” Watters said, referencing social media criticism. “This is a Madison Avenue campaign thing that they’ve done since the ’80s — they play on words with jeans. They’ve done it with brown-eyed girls, Blacks, and blondes.”
He continued, “Trump, who is in the culture because he watches TV all the time, seizes on this, champions this great American clothing company, and the Democrats lose another culture war battle. They are winless in the culture war over the last couple years. They are like, Dana, the Cleveland Browns of politics.”

Watters also took aim at liberal reactions to the campaign’s messaging, saying, “So when I hear someone has good genes, I think hot parents. I don’t think Hitler. They think Hitler all the time, and the CEO is Jewish. He’s not thinking Hitler. He’s thinking sex sells ’cause he’s smart and the stock’s up 20%.”
Watters concluded his commentary with a quip that raised eyebrows across social media: “And you know how this ends? She’s gonna marry Barron and it’s going to create the greatest political dynasty in American history.”
Meanwhile, Donald Trump praised Sweeney on Truth Social, though he initially misspelled her name. “Sidney Sweeney, a registered Republican, has the HOTTEST ad out there. It’s for American Eagle, and the jeans are ‘flying off the shelves.’ Go get ’em Sidney,” Trump posted.
He contrasted American Eagle’s success with what he sees as corporate failures from brands like Jaguar and Bud Light. Trump wrote, “Jaguar did a stupid, and seriously WOKE, advertisement, THAT IS A DISASTER. The CEO just resigned, the company is in turmoil. Shouldn’t they have learned a lesson from Bud Lite, which went Woke and essentially destroyed, in a short but very Woke campaign, the Company.”
Trump also took another jab at pop icon Taylor Swift, whom he’s previously criticized: “Or just look at Woke singer Taylor Swift. Ever since I alerted the world as to what she was by saying on TRUTH that I can’t stand her.”
The American Eagle campaign has sparked conversations not only about fashion advertising but also about the recurring culture war themes that have permeated both media and politics. Trump’s comparison to Bud Light references the backlash that followed the brand’s collaboration with trans influencer Dylan Mulvaney — a campaign that conservatives claim severely hurt sales and reputation. His criticism of Jaguar followed news in July 2025 that Jaguar’s CEO resigned amid falling stock prices and internal management disputes, though there has been no direct evidence linking the ad campaign to the leadership shake-up.
As for Sweeney, she has yet to publicly respond to either the backlash or the unexpected Trump endorsement. The actress, who reportedly identifies as a registered Republican, has previously faced criticism from progressive fans over her family’s political affiliations and themed birthday parties.
