Wild dashcam video of Dems’ gubernatorial candidate arrested in his underwear, calling himself Superman

by

South Carolina’s Democratic Party is facing a major political headache just days after William “Mullins” McLeod officially launched his campaign for governor. Shocking dashcam footage, released through a Freedom of Information Act request, shows McLeod—wearing nothing but underwear and shoes—being arrested in Charleston in a deeply erratic and expletive-laden encounter with law enforcement.

McLeod, 53, a prominent Charleston attorney and married father of four, appeared disoriented and delusional during the arrest, referring to himself as both “God” and “Superman.” The incident, which occurred in May but surfaced publicly just after his campaign launch this week, is now prompting calls from within his own party for him to step aside.

According to a police report, McLeod was found in downtown Charleston “yelling at the top of his lungs” and behaving erratically. Officers described his eyes as “extremely bloodshot and highly dilated,” noting behavior “typical of an individual under the influence of a stimulant narcotic.” Despite these signs, it remains unclear whether McLeod was tested for drugs at the time of his arrest.

What’s not in doubt is the severity of his behavior. The dashcam footage captures McLeod refusing to identify himself to police, instead making grandiose proclamations. “It doesn’t matter, my friend, trust me,” he told one officer. “I’m one of the most just humans to ever walk this soil.” He later added, “Superman sounds good.”

During the incident, McLeod also issued threats toward political rivals, including what appears to be a direct reference to Republican Attorney General Alan Wilson, who is also seeking the governorship in 2026. “I’m gonna kick your f–king teeth in,” McLeod declared at one point in the hour-long footage.

Even more disturbing were multiple uses of the n-word, despite McLeod being white—a move likely to alienate voters across the political spectrum and deepen concerns about his mental state.

When officers tried to escort him from the patrol car to the jail, McLeod refused to exit. “No, I’m not doing it, no. I’m not getting out of this car. It’s time to go to bed,” he shouted. He had to be forcibly removed and was booked shortly before 1 a.m. on charges of misdemeanor disorderly conduct.

McLeod has since claimed that his arrest was unlawful, but the evidence speaks for itself.

Despite having no other declared candidates for governor, South Carolina Democrats are now in crisis mode. State Democratic Party Chair Christale Spain issued a statement calling on McLeod to reconsider his candidacy, emphasizing his need for personal recovery rather than public office.

“After reviewing the transcript of the dash cam footage from his recent arrest, it is clear that Mr. McLeod is navigating profound challenges and should focus on his mental and emotional well-being instead of a campaign for governor,” Spain said.

McLeod previously ran for governor in 2010 without success and also served two terms as chairman of the Charleston County Democratic Party. His long-standing ties to the party only add to the embarrassment Democrats now face.

The one glaring question remains, who vetted this guy?!
