Heart-stopping video of guest acting to save boy walking on high amusement park monorail track

by

In a shocking incident at Hersheypark in Hershey, Pennsylvania, families enjoying a typical weekend at the beloved theme park were blindsided by a horrifying sight: a small boy walking alone along the narrow monorail track—dozens of feet above the ground.

The jaw-dropping moment, captured on video and now viral across social media platforms, reveals the young child—who had been reported missing just minutes earlier—struggling to navigate the elevated Capital BlueCross Monorail track as horrified guests watched from below. Some frantically shouted directions, while others implored him to stop and wait for help. The video clearly shows the child hesitating, turning back momentarily in confusion before continuing along the track, dangerously close to a potentially deadly fall.

According to Hershey Entertainment & Resorts, the child became separated from his parents just after 5:00 p.m. on Saturday. While park personnel were actively searching for him, he somehow managed to slip into a restricted and secured area of the monorail, which was not in operation at the time.

“While our team was actively searching, the child entered a secured area for the Monorail, which was not in operation,” a Hersheypark spokesperson said in a statement. “The ride was closed and safeguarded by a chained closure at the entrance and barricaded turnstile at the platform.” Despite those barriers, the boy remained at the closed station for nearly 20 minutes before stepping out onto the track.

It was then that park guests witnessed the unimaginable.

In a dramatic and heart-stopping rescue, one man—a true American hero—sprang into action. Climbing up a building alongside the monorail track, he reached out to the child, encouraging him to come forward. When the boy didn’t respond quickly enough, the man didn’t hesitate—he pulled himself up onto the elevated structure, grabbed the boy, and carried him to safety as the crowd below erupted in cheers.

This rescue wasn’t performed by a park employee or first responder—it was an everyday citizen who saw danger and took action. In an age when too many stand by with smartphones recording, this brave individual risked his own safety to save a child he’d never met. That’s the kind of courage and decisiveness we should be celebrating in America today.

According to Hersheypark, staff were on high alert and responded quickly once the child was spotted on the track. “At approximately 5:28 p.m., the child was safely reunited with his family. He was unharmed,” the park confirmed in its statement.

“We are grateful for the vigilance of our guests and the swift response of our team, and we remain committed to maintaining the highest levels of guest safety throughout Hersheypark,” the statement concluded.

While it’s a relief that this story ended without injury or worse, serious questions remain. How did a small child manage to bypass supposedly secure barriers meant to keep the public out of a non-operational, elevated ride track? And more importantly—why did it take a civilian to act while staff were still locating the child?

While the incident was resolved without tragedy, this should serve as a major wake-up call for amusement parks across the country. Real safety doesn’t come from PR statements or barricades; it comes from action, vigilance, and accountability—qualities shown by the heroic guest who refused to stand by.
