ABC late-night host Jimmy Kimmel is drawing criticism for politicizing a tragedy with a gargantuan LIE in response to the shocking assassination of Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk. During his Monday night monologue, Kimmel took aim not at the accused shooter, but at conservatives, implying the killer was part of what he derisively called the “MAGA gang.” His comments came in spite of mounting evidence pointing to the suspect’s left-wing radicalism.
“We hit some new lows over the weekend with the MAGA gang desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them,” Kimmel said, accusing right-leaning commentators of exploiting the tragedy for political gain. “And doing everything they can to score political points from it.”
However, Kimmel’s narrative is directly contradicted by statements from law enforcement and government officials, including Utah Governor Spencer Cox and FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino. Both confirmed that the 22-year-old suspect, Tyler Robinson, held extremist left-wing views and had been under investigation for radicalization.
“It’s fairly obvious this was an ideologically motivated attack,” Bongino told Fox News on Monday. He added that the FBI is currently exploring potential links between Robinson and organized leftist groups operating in Utah.
In a Tuesday press conference, authorities disclosed alarming new evidence, including text messages Robinson sent to his roommate and romantic partner—who is a transgender woman—indicating premeditated intent. In one message, Robinson wrote:
“I had enough of his [Kirk’s] hatred. Some hate can’t be negotiated out. If I am able to grab my rifle unseen, I will have left no evidence. Going to attempt to retrieve it again, hopefully they have moved on.”
These disturbing messages paint a clear picture of ideological motivation, yet Kimmel glossed over the facts and continued to bash conservatives and President Trump. The late-night host mocked Trump’s public response to Kirk’s assassination, particularly criticizing the former president for discussing unrelated topics and for not grieving in a way Kimmel deemed appropriate.
“This is not how an adult grieves the murder of somebody he called a friend. This is how a 4-year-old mourns a goldfish,” Kimmel sneered, comparing Trump’s reaction to that of a child.
Ironically, Kimmel had earlier released a statement on Instagram calling for unity, writing:
“Instead of the angry finger-pointing, can we just for one day agree that it is horrible and monstrous to shoot another human?”
Despite this plea, Kimmel’s own monologue seemed more focused on attacking Trump and the conservative movement than honoring Kirk’s legacy or condemning the ideology that motivated his killer.
Kimmel also took the opportunity to accuse Trump of inciting political violence in the past, citing long-debunked or misrepresented quotes. “The man who unleashed a mob on the Capitol… blames the radical left for their rhetoric,” Kimmel said, ignoring the clear evidence that this particular act of violence stemmed from a far-left ideology.
ABC has no comment on Kimmel’s remarks.
Jimmy Kimmel LIED to his audience by claiming Charlie Kirk’s assassin is MAGA.
I’m tagging @jimmykimmel @JimmyKimmelLive so we can all demand he apologize & tell his audience the truth.

He knows he doesn’t have to worry about a lawsuit because there isn’t anyone who would have standing in a case like that. Kimmel is simply a disgusting person who has been given a platform by ABC to further his dishonesty and hatred.
