Europe pulled off a stirring 15‑13 win over the United States in the 45th Ryder Cup at Bethpage Black, marking their first victory on American soil since 2012. The outcome came in dramatic fashion Sunday, as Europe held off a furious U.S. rally.
The closing moments were tense. Down by seven heading into the final day, the U.S. team clawed back with 5½ out of the first seven singles matches. Yet Shane Lowry’s clutch 6‑foot putt on the 18th hole sealed Europe’s win, just after Russell Henley had missed a chance to deliver the point Americans longed for.
In the aftermath, Europe’s players celebrated with more than just victory—they taunted the home crowd, and by extension President Donald Trump. Holding their trophy aloft, they sang, “Are you watching? Are you watching Donald Trump?”
Trump, an enthusiastic golfer himself who was present at Bethpage early in the competition with his granddaughter Kai, responded on his platform Truth Social: “Yes, I’m watching. Congratulations!” Despite the stinging challenge, his reply was gracious.
