Former White House strategist Steve Bannon delivered a fiery address to a packed conservative audience this week, warning that Democrats’ growing radicalism poses an existential threat not just to the Republican Party, but to freedom itself. Speaking at an event hosted by the Conservative Partnership Institute, Bannon didn’t mince words: if conservatives fail to retake power in the 2026 midterms and the 2028 presidential election, he said, “some in this room are going to prison—myself included.”
His warning came just one day after Democrats celebrated several key electoral victories in states like New Jersey and Virginia, along with a California referendum that could secure them more congressional seats. Democrats hailed the results as momentum heading into next year’s races—a sign, Bannon argued, that the left is mobilizing harder than ever to cement its control over the nation.
“The Democrats are not going to stop,” Bannon said. “They’re getting more radical, more aggressive, and they’re willing to weaponize the system to destroy anyone who stands in their way. We have to respond with urgency, with more action. We’re burning daylight.”
Bannon urged Senate Republicans to align with President Trump’s call to eliminate the chamber’s 60-vote cloture rule—a procedural hurdle Democrats have long exploited to block conservative reforms. The rule has become a flashpoint in the ongoing government funding standoff, as Democrats demand the extension of Obamacare subsidies in exchange for cooperation on a spending bill. “If we don’t take bold action now,” Bannon cautioned, “we may never get another chance. You’re never going to have another Trump.”
A longtime political warrior, Bannon is no stranger to controversy. He previously served four months in prison after refusing to comply with the House January 6 Committee’s subpoena, and later faced charges related to the “We Build the Wall” project—a privately funded initiative to support border security. Though he pleaded guilty to state charges earlier this year, he avoided further prison time. President Trump had already pardoned him on the federal charges in 2021.
Despite years of legal and political attacks, Bannon remains defiant. His message to conservatives was clear: the left will not stop until it silences every voice of opposition—and only a bold, united movement can stop them.
“We’re in a fight for the survival of this republic,” Bannon told the crowd. “And it’s time we act like it.”
