‘My name is Donald’: Trump takes sweet moment to visit with small children in Oval Office

by

In the middle of a packed Oval Office schedule, President Donald Trump carved out a few warm minutes to greet visiting children—an interaction that lit up social media and offered Americans a refreshing glimpse of his well-known but rarely highlighted grandfatherly side.

The moment was captured and posted by Trump communications advisor Margo Martin, whose behind-the-scenes content continues to draw massive engagement online. Her short clip, featuring Trump leaning down to speak with the children and handing out challenge coins, quickly went viral—nearing half a million views within just two hours. Martin’s posts frequently provide a candid look at the president the mainstream press often overlooks.

In the video, a voice off-camera tells Trump, “He wants to know what your name is.” Trump replies with a grin, “My name is Donald,” delivering the line with the easy charm familiar to anyone who has seen him interact with kids. The visitors were the grandchildren of journalist Salena Zito, who had stopped by the Oval Office for a quick greeting, according to the White House.

The president didn’t stop at challenge coins—he also offered the children official White House pens, holding them out one by one and asking, “Do you want a pen? One of them. One, two, three.” At one point he compliments one of the children, saying with a laugh, “She said yes — she’s smart… she’s so cute.”

Online, the reaction was immediate and overwhelmingly positive. One commenter wrote, “That’s a grandpa doing grandpa stuff,” while another added, “Kindness transcends politics.”

These kinds of moments have become something of a signature for Trump, who has eleven grandchildren and often shows a natural, affectionate rapport with kids. Earlier this year, he made headlines for sitting and coloring with children during the Easter Egg Roll—another interaction that spread across social platforms and cut through a frequently chaotic news cycle.

Scenes like these reinforce what the media fails to show: a president who is not only decisive in leadership but warm, relatable, and deeply comfortable around American families.

  1. If only this side of Trump would be shown by the media, but it will never happen
