Elton John drops political bombshell: Trump could be ‘one of the greatest presidents’ in history

by

Rock legend Elton John—yes, that Elton John—dropped a political bombshell last week when he told Variety that if President Donald J. Trump manages to finish the fight against AIDS, he would be “one of the greatest presidents” in American history.

That’s right: one of the entertainment world’s most iconic voices just gave Trump a potential place on Mt. Rushmore of global health.

Speaking about his own Elton John AIDS Foundation, the “Tiny Dancer” singer praised the support he’s received from Republican leaders like Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., and urged the Trump administration to keep pushing for complete eradication of HIV/AIDS.

“The bipartisan thing makes common sense,” John said, adding that AIDS is the “only disease that can be completely cured in one’s lifetime.” He even credited Trump for foreign-policy boldness, saying, “President Trump has maybe solved the peace problem… if he ended AIDS, that would really be a feather in his cap.”

Not exactly what the left-wing celebrity crowd wants to hear.

John’s comments came as the FDA recently approved a major medical breakthrough: a twice-a-year HIV-prevention shot developed by U.S. biopharma giant Gilead Sciences. Clinical trials showed it was nearly 100% effective—a landmark advance that builds directly on the Trump-era push for aggressive HIV prevention nationwide.

Let’s not forget: Trump pledged back in 2019 to eradicate HIV in America by 2030, launching a signature initiative during his first term. While critics hammered him for proposing trims to PEPFAR in his rescissions package, Senate Republicans ultimately preserved the funding—another example of the GOP’s practical approach to global health.

John didn’t hold back his anger toward governments dragging their feet—particularly those allowing budget cuts or legal obstacles to derail AIDS support.

“I just am enraged by it,” he told Variety. “It’s very frustrating when you’ve got the tools in your hand to end it, and then you find that countries won’t help.”

And according to the White House, Trump’s US isn’t one of the countries failing to help.

White House spokesperson Kush Desai told Fox News Digital that Elton John can “rest assured” that Trump is aggressively tackling the issue both at home and abroad.

Desai said the State Department is coordinating with global partners to implement a revamped health strategy to modernize America’s fight against HIV. Meanwhile, HHS is driving “next-generation HIV prevention and treatment options,” improving nationwide viral suppression, and expanding trusted HIV outreach.

In other words: the Trump team is doing exactly what activists like Elton John say must be done.

This isn’t the first time Elton John has spoken fondly of Trump. In 2024, he even praised Trump’s famously sharp nickname for Kim Jong Un, “Little Rocket Man,” calling it “brilliant.”

“I laughed… it made me laugh,” John said. He added that “Donald’s always been a fan of mine,” noting that the president has attended many of his concerts.

Not exactly the narrative the media is eager to promote.
