‘I’ll apologize to Zeta-Jones over dinner’: Jennings trolls pampered Douglas family after tantrum

by

Hollywood royalty may be used to red carpets, pampered press tours, and “yes-men” on speed dial — but CNN’s conservative firebrand Scott Jennings just handed the Douglas dynasty something they’ve apparently never experienced: a real debate. And now, according to gossip guru Rob Shuter, Catherine Zeta-Jones and Michael Douglas are so furious they’re threatening to blacklist the entire network.

Why? Because their 25-year-old son, Dylan Douglas — a self-styled progressive commentator and bona fide “nepo baby,” as even Meghan McCain affectionately labeled him — got his talking points torched on live TV.

One insider put it bluntly: “Dylan’s never been spoken to like that in his entire life. He’s always been the golden boy — adored, protected.” But thanks to Jennings, “CNN gave him a taste of the real world, and his parents hated every second of it.”

Zeta-Jones reportedly blasted the segment as “unfair and exploitative,” while Douglas complained the network had “crossed a line.” The Hollywood power couple has now supposedly sworn off interviews with CNN entirely, calling the debate a “total betrayal.”

But Scott Jennings? He’s not exactly shaking in his boots. Appearing on Meghan McCain’s Citizen McCain podcast, the longtime GOP commentator said he was actually “surprised” the A-list parents were so enraged. Then he delivered the most tongue-in-cheek olive branch of 2025:

“I’m more than willing to apologize personally to Catherine Zeta-Jones over a nice seafood dinner if she wants to do it,” he quipped.

Jennings even insisted that off-camera, Dylan was polite and “honored to be there.” On camera, though, it was a different story. Dylan attempted to blame Republicans for the record-long shutdown after the Senate passed the funding bill to reopen the government, telling Jennings, “Scott, with all respect, you cannot put on the American people that Democrats were the one that were hurting people.”

Jennings struck back with the question that set off the viral clash: “Who was casting the votes against opening the government, Democrats or Republicans?”

When Dylan floundered, attempting to redirect with “Who was wanting to cut SNAP benefits?”, Jennings responded with a factual smackdown — noting Republicans voted to fund SNAP 15 times while Democrats voted against it every single time. He reminded viewers that eight Democratic senators even broke ranks to reopen the government.

As the debate escalated, Dylan began stuttering about Affordable Care Act tax credits — a moment Hollywood insiders claim left his parents “incandescent.”

To Jennings, though, the whole exchange was nothing unusual: “We had what is relatively a normal exchange… He made his Democratic talking points. I dismantled him. Not an uncommon thing to happen on CNN.”

What did shock him was the reported meltdown from his opponent’s household. “Some of these folks exist in a very tight little bubble,” he said. “They never really talk to Republicans or conservatives… where people tell them how smart and good-looking they are. And then they wind up on television with someone of a different persuasion, and it’s surprising to them.”

Ouch.

Even Meghan McCain — who jokingly crowned herself the “queen of nepo babies” — said the entire segment made her “uncomfortable,” admitting she once took a televised beating from Democrat Paul Begala. “I have been Dylan Douglas,” she said. “But what didn’t happen is my parents didn’t have a meltdown. My dad was like, ‘Buck up and move on.’”

Jennings, for his part, hopes Dylan returns to the arena: “I’m sure he’ll get better at it.”
