Dave Chappelle mocks Charlie Kirk supporters in surprise Netflix special

by

In a surprise move Friday, Netflix dropped Dave Chappelle: Unstoppable, a stand-up special filmed in Washington, D.C., where the comedian took aim at cultural flashpoints ranging from Saudi Arabia to conservative activist Charlie Kirk. As expected, Chappelle didn’t pull punches—but critics say he may have swung wildly off target.

Chappelle mocked comparisons some commentators made between Kirk and historic civil rights figures, bristling at the idea that conservatives might elevate one of their own to the level of Martin Luther King Jr.

“I’ll tell you what I don’t believe, and the whites were quick to say this: Charlie Kirk was this generation’s Martin Luther King,” Chappelle said. “That’s a reach. They both got murdered in a terrible fashion. They both got shot in the neck, but that’s about where those similarities ended.”

Chappelle went even further, reducing Kirk—founder of Turning Point USA and one of the most influential conservative organizers of young voters—to little more than a digital provocateur.

“Charlie Kirk is a motherfking internet personality — by design. Fundamentally, he can’t function like Dr. King. Internet n*as are negative because they have to be,” he said. “No one will engage them unless they say shit unless that makes them upset. Can you image if Dr. King was behaving like Charlie Kirk? Smash that like button and subscribe! Follow me for more content like that! I believe all Black people should be free, change my mind!”

Supporters of Kirk argue the attack ignores his real-world activism, campus organizing, and political impact—none of which fit neatly into Chappelle’s dismissive caricature.

The special also found Chappelle defending his controversial appearance at the Riyadh Comedy Festival in Saudi Arabia, brushing off criticism from fellow entertainers like Bill Maher.

Chappelle claimed he felt no “guilt” over performing in the kingdom, even as critics pointed to the murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi.

“They said, ‘Well, Saudi Arabia killed a journalist’ and rest in peace Jamal Khashoggi,” Chappelle said. “I’m sorry that he got murdered in such a heinous fashion. And also, look bro, Israel’s killed 240 journalists in the last three months so I didn’t know y’all were still counting.”
