Rep. Randy Fine (R-FL) isn’t mincing words — and he isn’t backing down.
In a blistering appearance on Newsmax Sunday, Fine unloaded on Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN), declaring that Congress — and the country — would be better off without her. Speaking with host Lidia Curanaj, Fine said he sees Omar as the poster child for what conservatives argue is a broken immigration system.
“Ilhan Omar is a walking example of everything that is wrong with our legal immigration policy,” Fine said.
“We imported tens of thousands of people who hate America, add no value to it, rob and steal from us, and we’re supposed to be okay with it?”
But Fine didn’t stop at criticizing Omar’s record or rhetoric. He went straight for the exits — literally.
“I don’t think Ilhan Omar should be expelled from Congress, I think she should be expelled from the United States, and that is something that I am working on,” he continued.
Fine says his escalation was sparked after Omar herself suggested he should be removed from Congress in fundraising emails. The Florida Republican responded by announcing last week that he was “actively considering” forcing a vote to oust her from the House — a move that has reignited conservative frustration with Omar’s long history of anti-Israel rhetoric and clashes with party leadership.
The controversy didn’t emerge in a vacuum.
President Donald Trump has also gone scorched earth on Omar, calling her “garbage,” an antisemite, and a “terrible person.” Trump argued the U.S. should stop importing more politicians like her altogether. “They contribute nothing. I don’t want them in our country, I’ll be honest with you,” Trump said. “Some will say that is not ‘politically correct.’ I don’t care. Their country is no good for a reason.”
Trump also said he did not want more Somalis like Omar entering the United States because they were “ripping off” American taxpayers.
Trump’s comments came just days after The New York Times reported that some Somalis living in Minnesota were behind a massive fraud operation that federal prosecutors say stole “more than $1 billion in taxpayers’ money.”
Fox News reporter Garrett Tenney later added that several whistleblowers “believe the total amount of fraud could reach more than $8 billion.”
Omar, for her part, has dismissed the criticism, accusing Trump of fixation rather than accountability. She claimed the former president has a “creepy obsession” with her and with Somalis.
