Kristi Noem orders all agents to wear body cams

by

In a dramatic shift, Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem declared on Monday that federal agents in Minneapolis, Minnesota will start wearing body‑worn cameras “effective immediately,” a move triggered by relentless pressure from protest crowds and Democratic politicians.

For weeks, the Twin Cities have been the epicenter of outrage after two U.S. citizens — Renée Good and Alex Pretti — were shot and killed while attempting to impede law enforcement. The confrontations involved Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Border Patrol agents. These incidents inflamed critics who claimed official accounts clashed with bystander video and fueled nationwide protests.

In a bold post on X, Noem spared no words:

Effective immediately we are deploying body cameras to every officer in the field in Minneapolis. As funding is available, the body camera program will be expanded nationwide. We will rapidly acquire and deploy body cameras to DHS law enforcement across the country. The most transparent administration in American history—thank you [President Donald] Trump. Make America Safe Again.

With body cameras coming to federal agents on patrol, supporters say the public will finally get a clearer, real‑time record of what really happens on the ground.

The rollout starts in Minneapolis — the flashpoint of clashes that saw protests erupt after the deadly encounter with Pretti, 37, on Jan. 24, and earlier with Good on Jan. 7. While federal leaders continue to defend their officers’ actions, critics — including Democrats and the news media — seized on incomplete or conflicting footage to paint a distorted picture of events.

Noem and others emphasized support from President Trump, who backed the move as a common‑sense tool to prevent misinformation and protect law enforcement. Conservatives hailed the policy as a win for accountability and a check against politically charged narratives that erode confidence in American institutions.
