Former CNN personality Don Lemon is stirring the pot again — this time by floating the idea that he could one day sit behind the Resolute Desk. Yes, that Don Lemon.
In a head-turning appearance on the Pod Save America podcast with guest host Alex Wagner, Lemon openly entertained the notion of a presidential bid — while admitting he knows critics are already rolling their eyes.
“I think people are going to laugh,” Lemon conceded. But then came the kicker: “I think I could be president of the United States.”
Lemon doubled down with a bold swipe at Donald Trump, declaring:
“Do I ever think about it? Yes. Could it happen? Yeah, it could happen if the opportunity presented itself, the right opportunity presented itself. Look, if I wanted to, I know people are going to think I’m crazy. This is going to be the headline, and people are going to laugh about it. I think I could be President of the United States. I could definitely run this country better than [President] Donald Trump.”
That’s not exactly dipping a toe in the water — that’s a full cannonball into presidential speculation.
Before anyone starts printing campaign buttons, Lemon quickly pumped the brakes. He insisted he’s not gearing up for a campaign anytime soon, brushing off the idea as premature.
“Am I at that point now? No. And I know people are going to say Don Lemon is crazy,” he said.
Still, he made it clear that if he did jump in, it would be as a Democrat — meaning he’d have to ditch his current independent status.
Lemon also argued the political playing field isn’t exactly level, suggesting minority candidates face harsher scrutiny than their white male counterparts — a familiar refrain in today’s political landscape.
Trying to make his case sound less far-fetched, Lemon invoked Barack Obama, pointing to his unlikely rise as evidence that unconventional candidates can break through:
“Did anybody think Barack Obama, as he says, this guy with a funny name is from a mixed background, did anybody ever think that he would become president, that he had that aspiration? I don’t have an aspiration to become president, but I do think that I could run this country a lot better than Donald Trump.”
Adding fuel to the fire, Lemon is also dealing with legal trouble. He recently entered a not guilty plea to federal charges tied to an anti-ICE protest at a Minnesota church. Lemon insists he was there strictly as a journalist and blasted Trump’s Justice Department, accusing it of intimidation tactics.
