California Democrat Sydney Kamlager-Dove didn’t exactly bring a dove’s touch to the Capitol steps Thursday. Instead, she unleashed a tirade that veered from economic fearmongering to outright vulgarity — all with President Donald Trump squarely in her sights.
When asked by journalist Pablo Manríquez about the financial toll of the Iran conflict, Kamlager-Dove didn’t hesitate to sound the alarm — or crank up the theatrics.
“Oh my God, yes of course I am,” she said. “Stevie Wonder can even see how much this war is costing us. So, gas prices are going up. It’s almost $10 in California. And fertilizer’s going up. I mean, you name it, prices have gone up. And this dude, Dr. Jesus, ok, is wanting to spend $2 billion of your money every single day rather than help you get healthcare. F*ck his ass!”
Let’s unpack the substance behind the spectacle. The military operation against Iran — launched Feb. 28 — reportedly burned through a staggering $11.3 billion in just its first six days, according to Pentagon figures shared with Congress. That’s real money, and yes, wartime spending always hits the national ledger hard. But critics on the right argue Democrats suddenly rediscover fiscal restraint only when a Republican is in charge.

And then there’s the “Dr. Jesus” jab — a swipe at Trump over a bizarre social media post earlier in the week. The president shared an AI-generated image portraying himself in a Christ-like role tending to a sick man. Cue bipartisan eye-rolls and predictable outrage cycles. The post didn’t last long before being deleted.
Trump, never one to miss a chance to double down, offered his unapoplogetic defense.
“I did post it, and I thought it was me as a doctor — and, had to do with Red Cross, as a Red Cross worker there, which we support,” he said. “And only the fake news could come up with that one. So I just heard about it, and I said, ‘How do they come up with that?’ It’s supposed to be me as a doctor making people better, and I do make people better. I make people a lot better.”
