‘Unhinged’ Al Green outburst fuels GOP firestorm

by

Washington didn’t need another reminder that Capitol Hill has turned into a reality-TV pressure cooker — but Rep. Al Green delivered one anyway, courtesy of a viral shouting match that sent conservatives into full-blown outrage mode.

During a heated House hearing, the Texas Democrat — already known for his long-running crusade against President Donald Trump and repeated impeachment theatrics — went off on Department of Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin after accusing him of racism tied to a past protest sign incident.

When Mullin attempted to respond, Green abruptly cut him off with a blunt command that instantly lit up social media: “Shut up.”

Yes, really.

The exchange didn’t just derail the hearing — it hijacked it. Green escalated further, repeatedly demanding that Mullin be silenced and even pressing the chair to intervene as he insisted it was “his time” to speak.

Republicans and conservative commentators wasted no time pouncing. The Republican National Committee blasted the clip online, branding the moment “UNHINGED,” while right-leaning media figures framed it as yet another example of Democrats losing their composure under pressure.

One commentator ripped the scene as a “tantrum,” arguing Green had no argument left beyond interruption and indignation. Another conservative account mocked the spectacle as an embarrassment for Democrats, celebrating what they described as his looming exit from Congress after redistricting reshaped his political future.

The hearing itself eventually had to be brought back under control by the chair, who gavelled the room to order and warned against personal attacks. But even that wasn’t enough to fully cool things down — Mullin fired off a parting jab suggesting voters had already “had enough” of Green.

For his part, Green wasn’t done. Even after warnings to maintain decorum, he doubled down, declaring he would speak loudly so he could be heard and again telling anyone interrupting him to “shut up.”
