‘I’m the boss!’ Trump’s G7 entrance steals the show as world leaders crack up

by

World leaders gathered in France for the latest G7 summit expecting the usual polished choreography of global diplomacy—carefully timed arrivals, scripted talking points, and the standard parade of bureaucratic seriousness.

What they got instead was Donald Trump doing what Donald Trump does: walking in late, owning the moment, and tossing out a line that immediately set the room off.

During a working session focused on “promoting balanced, shared and sustainable economic growth,” French President Emmanuel Macron opened proceedings by acknowledging the obvious, the American president wasn’t there yet, and they’d have to begin without him.

Macron, trying to keep the proceedings moving, explained that several leaders were still en route and suggested starting the discussion anyway. Translation: the show must go on, even if the headliner is missing.

Moments later, Trump arrived. And instead of slipping quietly into his seat like a traditional diplomat, he broke the tension with a grin and a line that instantly went global: “I’m the boss!”

Cue the laughter.

It wasn’t the only unscripted moment. As cameras rolled, Trump made a light offer to let the press remain in the room before aides quickly ushered reporters out to continue the closed-door discussions. In typical fashion, the optics were already set.

Macron attempted to steer the meeting back to order, greeting the U.S. president and moving toward a group photo. Trump, meanwhile, kept things loose, engaging directly with the room and maintaining the kind of off-the-cuff energy that routinely sends diplomatic staff reaching for their talking points binders.

At one point, Trump also remarked on the room conditions, noting it was “too hot” and joking about the lack of air conditioning—because even at a summit of the world’s most powerful leaders, nobody escapes HVAC commentary.

Critics will no doubt clutch their pearls over the theatrics. Supporters, however, would likely call it what they see it as, a reminder that Trump doesn’t exactly audition for the role of background figure in global diplomacy.

And while the session continued on matters of economic coordination with IMF and OECD officials, it was the unscripted arrival—and that one line—that stole the spotlight.
