WASHINGTON — Democrats may have found their newest Trump target, and this time it isn’t the president.
It’s his youngest son.
Rep. Yassamin Ansari of Arizona ignited a political firestorm Sunday after publicly calling for 20-year-old Barron Trump to testify before Congress regarding his reported association with controversial internet personality Andrew Tate.
Appearing on MeidasTouch’s On Sunday program, Ansari argued that Barron Trump should be questioned under oath about what she described as his relationship with Tate and whether he played any role in introducing the social media influencer to anyone connected to the Trump administration.
“I absolutely want to see Barron Trump come before Congress and answer questions about this,” Ansari said. “There is reporting about this, and he should answer these questions.”
She continued:
“What is his relationship with Andrew Tate? What kind of communication have they had? What kinds of connections has Barron Trump potentially made for Andrew Tate and his brother? Has he had any conversations with other White House officials about this? These are all really important questions to be asking.”
Ansari acknowledged that House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-Ky.) is unlikely to pursue such an investigation, saying she expects a “dismissive response” from the Kentucky Republican.
The congresswoman’s comments stem from previous reporting by The New York Times, which reported that Barron Trump admired some of Tate’s online content and maintained a friendly relationship with one of Tate’s employees. No evidence has emerged publicly that Barron Trump is accused of any crime or has been implicated in the criminal cases involving Andrew or Tristan Tate.
Andrew Tate and his brother continue fighting criminal allegations in Romania and the United Kingdom involving human trafficking, rape and organized crime. The brothers have consistently denied all allegations and maintain they are innocent.
Despite acknowledging that Barron Trump has not been charged with any wrongdoing, Ansari argued that his role within what she called “Trump’s orbit” justified congressional questioning.
“Barron Trump is an adult. He is somebody who is deeply involved in Trump’s orbit and the whole manosphere, and he has a lot of influence. So he needs to be held accountable if he has committed any wrongdoing.”
She also accused members of the Trump family of using the White House “to enrich themselves and protect pedophiles,” later posting on X:
“Nobody is above the law—they must be investigated.”
Ansari offered no public evidence that Barron Trump personally engaged in illegal activity.
The proposal immediately generated backlash from conservatives, who questioned why Democrats were attempting to draw the president’s youngest son into another congressional investigation.
Several Republican commentators argued that Barron Trump has largely remained out of the political spotlight throughout both of his father’s administrations and contrasted Democrats’ calls for hearings with years of complaints about involving politicians’ children in partisan attacks.
Conservative social media lit up Sunday afternoon, with many users accusing Democrats of abandoning long-standing norms that children of presidents should generally be left outside political warfare unless they themselves hold public office or are accused of criminal conduct.
