Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-Texas) is once again making headlines—this time over a claim that critics say doesn’t survive even a cursory fact-check.
Speaking at a political event focused on voter mobilization, Crockett argued that attacks on diversity, equity and inclusion programs have disproportionately harmed Black women.
“Black women, the most educated demographic in this country, somehow ended up the most unemployed out of everyone,” Crockett said. “There are certain targets that don’t miss any of us.”
Her remarks were part of a message encouraging Black Americans to remain politically engaged, arguing that Black communities face common challenges regardless of individual differences.
Within hours, however, X users had attached a Community Note disputing one of the central factual claims.

The note cited educational attainment figures showing Asian women have the highest percentage of bachelor’s degrees or higher in the United States, followed by White women. According to the data referenced in the note, Black women trail both groups in overall college-degree attainment.
The controversy spread rapidly across social media, with critics accusing Crockett of using inaccurate statistics to reinforce a political narrative.
The unemployment portion of Crockett’s remarks also sparked debate.
Labor economists have long noted that Black women often experience higher unemployment rates than White women and Asian women, although those rates fluctuate with economic conditions. Recent labor-market analysis has shown that unemployment among Black women has changed significantly over the past year, with workforce participation playing an important role in interpreting those numbers rather than unemployment alone.
Earlier this month, Crockett argued Democrats have been too focused on winning over White voters while taking Black voters for granted, saying, “If there’s any group of people that the party should be most loyal to… it’s Black people.”
She also drew national attention after declaring that America owes Black women “everything” because they serve as “the backbone” of the Democratic Party.
